I think I have blown my cab???

Ok I need advice. I recently bought a

gallien krueger 1001rb II With 700W + 50Whead and Running through a

peavey 410TVX eX4x10" speaker cab, 8ohm impedance

* 350 Watts RMS continuous
* 700 Watts RMS program
* Four 10 inch SheffieldŽ bass speakers
* Front-ported enclosure
* Horn-loaded tweeter w/ L-pad attenuator for tweeter and protection circuitry
* 30 Hz to 15 kHz.

I connected via a jack lead as that is all the peavey cab has. I have been playing and it just popped and cut out. The volume knob on the head was only at about 1 out 10. Could I have blown it? It was not stupidly loud?

You can check the cabinet by applying a 9V battery across the tip and sleeve of the speaker cable. It should produce a healthy clunk from the cabinet.

a "jack lead"?, you mean an instrument cable? be sure you're using a proper speaker cable first off.

Process of elimination. Does the amp work with other cabs? Does the cab work with other amp?

And yeah, what the hell is a jack lead? Speaker cable only from amp to cab. Instrument cable "guitar cord" from bass to amp.

Thanks guys. I have sorted it out. The circuit in my bass was faulty and needs soldering.
Jack lead is an instrument cable / guitar cord. Its how I was taught in music tech class so I assumed it was standard but apparently its just a U.K thing

You shouldn't use an instrument cable to connect a speaker cabinet to an amplifier. They are shielded and too light of a gauge. The result -> Added noise and maybe a fire! Get a proper, unshielded speaker cable.

UMMMMM, The only way to connect the two is with an instrument cable as that is the only slot/port on the back?

Instrument cables and speaker cables look the same but are not the same. You should get a proper speaker cable.

instrument cable meaning the 1/4" plug. its the wire thats different for the speakers or instruments. speakers use heavier wire because they carry more power than the wire they use for guitars or basses. the guitar wire is shielded so it doesnt pick up and hum or hiss. the ends(plugs) are the same though.
