I want to build a 2x10 and I have ?s

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to build a 2x10 cab with no tweeter or midrange driver. I have 2 Eminence s2010's. I have Win ISD and I really don't understand what I'm reading and I don't know that much about tuning etc. So what I want is the smallest 2x10 that I can make.

If I make the inside dimensions 26-1/2"' x 12" x 9-3/4"... how big of a port do I need?

Thanks!

for Fb = 46 Hz of a 1.8 cu ft box you need one 4" diameter port with a length of 6.5 inches.

no problem

Your Fb will be around 77 Hz. Not the deepest sounding cabinet but it will be just fine for a lot of applications w/a 4 string in standard tuning

Watch the port air velocity, too much will chuff when you put power to it. Consider using 2 ports or triangle ports in the corners to save space. Find a compromise between box size (bass extension) and your size limits vs. displacement limit (max power graph). Getting the f3 into the 60's would sound bassy enough you shouldn't feel like you need to stack it with something else to get the lows. Not a bad idea to leave space in the baffle to add a 6 or a tweet later should you want some top end extension. For example my 210 nets a sure 2.9 cu.ft. but still seems fairly compact. It's rackwidth, just high enough to fit a pair of 10's vertically and about 15" deep externally. A bit bigger than most 210's, could be made narrower and a little shallower for really compact.

+1. As usual, good advice from Will

If I did 2 ports, would I go 3 inches in length?

no, it'd be about 15.5" each for an Fb of 46 Hz.

To maintain the targeted Fb when you increase port area you wind up increasing the length. When you decrease port area the length drops.

Ok, new interior box size: 17, 22.5, 14.5. Same 2 drivers and a square port. What is the port volume I need?

You need WinISD, that tells you everything you need. And of course to translate what your eyes are seeing on the graph to what your ears are going to hear, it's a free download. Search it.
