I want a loud amp for not much money. HELP

Sign in to disble this ad
Also I know nothing about amp brands and stuff.
I want an amp that can make me easily heard in a punk/metal band. What is the cheapest amp that meets this criteria? Used is fine.

Sorry for being a noob lol. I can see so many TBers shaking their heads while reading this.

Please and thank you guys!

I'd bump it up to a 700 RBII. 480 really loud watts. Good used prices here frequently.

Lots of cabs. Enough mean the amp power doesn't matter. Bif pile of those peavey 15s and some Peavey head, the Firebass and most of the other xxxbass ones do 2 ohm, so you can run 4 of them.

Took the keys right outta my fingers....the 700RB-II generates a ton of sound. For REALLY loud, there's the 1001RB-II.

For reference, you often see 1001RB's sold because they're almost "too loud".

Gallien-Krueger Backline series. Combos and head/speakers. Also the new Acoustic stuff at GC.
Used Crate can be good. Berringer is cheap and some are loud, but they are hit or miss.

Used Peavey Firebass 700 or Peavey Max 700. (Same inside) 700 wts @ 2 ohms. Very loud. Very reliable.

I've been through craploads of combos. Peaveys and Fender bassmans were the loudest of anything I've owned, and I've owned some that cost triple the price new.

Hartike. Cheap and very solid. I run an older hartike ha3500. I love the 9 band eq and if I had to discribe the tone I would say its very much like an ampeg only way cheaper. I use 1x15s only because I love the rounded tone I get from a 1x15 cab but pair it with anything It will sound great with a good 4x10 or whatever cab you want as long as the cab handles more wattage then he head puts out your set. Also make sure the ohm ratings on the head and cab are the same.

While we're on the subject, how much power is enough power? For the type of music I play (1 distorted guitar, 1 synth/keys, 1 drummer playing hard), I thought 200 would be a little weak, but, as I said, I don't know much. :hiding

As for my budget, I don't really have one, I just need a satisfactory amp asap, so the lower $ the better so I don't have to save for as long, therefore getting it sooner.

Also, the sound needs to be clean as a whistle; no distortion. My 45W Behringer practice amp is almost loud enough for band practice, but thats with master all the way up and with channel 2 distortion 3/4 of the way up... but it sounds like absolute crap! When I dial it down enough to not have distortion, it's like a whisper, lol.

Thanks so far guys! Great advice!

Hartke HA3500 is my suggestion...you can probably get a used one for $200 or so. Same with the XL410 cabinet. It's definitely clean.
