Have a couple of new impressions to share.
1) I have now hooked up my Bass Trainer MP3 player to it and used it to do play-alongs through the combo speaker (as opposed to headphones). It sounds really good! I was afraid that the single 10" speaker would not reproduce the high end of the treble range from an MP3 very well and playing along with it would sound crappy. But the 1x10 has a tweeter built in and it reproduces full range very well (to my ear, anyway). I cranked it up and played along and it just sounded good! Definitely an excellent setup for practicing.
2) I had band rehearsal last night and the bass player in my band plugged into the Promethean and we played some (me on drums). It definitely sounds good enough and loud enough to use as a practice/jamming amp, at least for a 3-piece rock band. In rehearsal, I wear IEMs with custom earmolds so I get hearing protection and can still hear the mix I want. That meant the bass had to be loud enough out of the Promethean for me to hear it through my earmolds. I was getting vocals and guitar through the IEM, but I did not run the Promethean DI into the board. It was plenty loud for that.
Color me very happy!
I'm taking a bass, my bass trainer, and the Promethean with me on vacation next week. The people in the next cabins are going to get some free shows.
