ideas for misc drivers??

when you've been playing for a while you tend to accumulate bits n bobs you dont really need, i aquired 2 8 ohm 15" monacor SP380-P drivers, they are rated at 100 watts, after a very short while of joining TB i realised these would be no good for a hefty bass cab set up (altho the idea did go thro my head), so went fEARful, with the right drivers for the job, this has left me still with these 2 big speakers lurking in my spare room, would love to do something useful with them, just not sure what, lol.... any ideas?

Yep.

The only other way is a lot of time and trial and error in a test box. Basically throw together an oversize box and put chunks of styrofoam in there to take up space/make different volumes. Use various different length of tubes to try different tunings, block off the ports to experiment with sealed box, etc.

It's the old fashioned way, helps if you know what type of equipment they originally came out of to at least start somewhere in the ballpark. 15" guitar drivers where fairly common back then.

originally these speakers were in some sort of music therapy bed in a hospital, they were given to me by a m8 who worked there as they had a refit and these speakers were gonna be thrown out, i was asked if i wanted them, i said sure , lol, reverse engineering a speaker isn't a good idea i know lol, but it would be nice to do something with them.

you suggest a low performace low power woofer, do you mean a low power PA? 2 way with horn maybe?

Fs is really low like a subwoofer. I wonder if these where supposed to vibrate the bed during music therapy or something.

Here's a Dayton I'm using as a PA sub, works pretty good for what it is. It's an 18 but a few specs look similair. Yours couldn't be pushed as hard as this one but might make some lowpower minisubs if you have a need for such a thing. Or maybe use them at home. Just guessing here, haven't really looked into it.

Those have hi-fi woofer specs, and that's all they'd work well for.

i dont pretend to understand the TSP's but judging by the power handling that is the conclusion i came up with too, bloody big hi-fi cabs tho, is there a design your aware of to follow?, 2 way? 3 way? or another forum that i may be able to learn from?

before i built my fEARful setup i used 1 of these drivers in my old peavey 115 cab,.previously had a BW 4 ohm driver and i needed to pair it with a 2x10 (yeah i know, bad combo - making the best of what i had at the time) i was driving both cabs with a 450 watt head at the time, it actually didnt sound too bad, far from ideal if honest but it got me thro a lil while, surprised i didn't blow the speaker, i thought it was a 200 watter at the time WRONG, lol
