Identify this old cab

Having collected way too much gear recently, I'm in a big sell-off phase. I've had this unidentified 1x15 speaker cabinet in the basement since about 1997 or so. Used it once in a while, mainly left at practice spaces, if anything. I think it's time to say goodbye, but before I do, I'd love to figure out what it actually is. It has had many owners and any info on it has been long since lost.

Here it is. Not much to go on. Obviously used to be some kind of logo glued to the upper left corner.

Without the grille:

Not much info inside either, just some fiberglass batting. Stamped on the speaker is:

Electro-Voice, Inc.
EVM Model 15L OEM Type
One Year (Limited) Warranty
Manufactured____________
041

Only identifying feature left on the cabinet itself are the flip-out handles which are stamped with:

J.H. Sessions & Son
Bristol Conn

Any ideas on where this thing came from?

I looked to see if JH Sessions & Son might be a cab maker, but it looks like they primarily built hardware, and road cases.

That's a TL606 with the EVM 15L driver in it, and something of a classic if the build is halfway decent and the driver is in good shape. Same thing as the Mesa Diesel.

You should be able to get a couple hundred bucks for it.

It will sound like crap. Home insulation isn't the best damping material, but it does work.
By the looks of it all of the interior isn't lined; it should be. An inch thick of foam, polyester batting or felt carpet padding will do nicely, and they're much more user-friendly options than fiberglass.

Derail/bump: Bill, how wrong is stryofoam as insulation in a cab? My Flite 2x10 had the fuzzy stuff like in the OP's cab, but my cats climbed into the port and literally ate it. I replaced it w/some stryo packing w/what seems to be good results, but feel free to show no mercy if this is just wrong.

Not really a useful reply to the question, but you can get egg crate/matress topper foam pretty cheap and that seems to do the trick

Looks like a nicely built TL-606 cab ...could be a local cab builder, I'd would line it with some polyester fiberfill

Yeah, it's an old TL cab. They were quite common. I know of a couple clubs that still use them in their house system--believe it or not.

Hi.

Another vote for EV TL606 or a TL inspired design.

As BFM pointed out in another TL cab thread, not all shelve ported cabs are actual 606's even though they're close. Not that it matters much though, the performance is similar and the design wasn't patented.

A great cab (IMHO), I've had a few, and 505's are still on my PA.

Regards
Sam

Worthless, unless you're converting the cab from a speaker to a beer cooler. Styrofoam is a thermal insulating material, not an acoustic damping material.

Thanks for all the info -- definitely learned something today. I'll have to pull it out of the basement and play through it again, it has been quite a while since I've fired it up.

My stable of speaker cabs has gotten pretty silly. I didn't pay much for this so I was thinking about letting it go for cheap on Craig's List and making some kid's day. However, it could be cool to fix it up and keep it around in case I want to pull out something with some old school mojo. Bastard is heavy though, gotta be up around 70 pounds.

It's in pretty rough shape, cosmetically, but sounds ok from what I remember. Any ideas what it should go for if I did sell it?
