I'm dumb I know. But I have a question!

What do the measurements for cabs mean?

1x15 means one 15 inch speaker, and 2x10 means two 10 inch speakers, right? So what's a 2x210 or something? I'm a newb. You don't have to tell me. I already know...

2x210 isn't a standard term but I would guess they meant a pair of 2x10 cabs

That's what I was thinking. So a 410 is the same as a 4x10?

Learn about cabinet ohm rating and pairing cabinets and amps. This will be your guide when you go to get "set up". Just because you can plug it in,does not mean that it will work.( without burning up your head or cabinet)

I should mention though the fEarful cabs involve mids and sometimes tweeters. I was confused the first time I came across these cabs.
For example: 15/6/1= one 15", one 6" mid, and one 1" tweet.
Like what was mentioned above, matching ohms as well as wattage is just as important. Also IME, it is ok to slightly underpower a cab, but overpowering a cab is usually bad.

Don't let these guys fool you......

We were all noobs once, too....some (like me) were noobs in the early 60s and some were noobs a year ago.

I STILL hold to the premise that the only stupid question is the one that you DON'T ask.

There are times when my eyes STILL glaze over when trying to understand ohms......

The stickies here on TB are absolute gold. I joined in February, clueless. Now I consider myself somewhat knowledgable about bass, ohms, frequencies and electronics in general

Yes, 410 = 4x10. 2x210 means two 2x10 cabinets.

Don't let anyone scare you about Ohms and Watts, that stuff is also pretty simple. Now decibels, frequency response, and sensitivity is a bit more complex, but it's where the rubber meets the road because you can start to figure out how loud a given rig will be compared to other rigs. At least in the ball park.

if you can read a dyno chart
then you can read a frequency response chart

Agreed. But what does it mean to your tone? To expected stage volume? It's more complex than simple Ohms/Watts type questions.

Speaker cabinets are like women...the higher the sensitivity, the louder they are. Nuff said.

Two small sized ones are better than one big one.

However, if they are both too small, and your head is too powerful for them, you're in trouble.

Normally you can tell if there is a buzzing or one of them farts out.

Sensitivity is good though. You can get more out of them before they start farting.
