i'm looking for a new amp...

Sign in to disble this ad
let me preface this by saying I do not consider myself a bassist; I play a bass guitar.

By that I mean, I don't know my theory, but I make sure that what both my guitar player and I are playing sounds good.

I should know a lot more about the whole world of bass playing, but I don't.

Right now I have a Peavey Tour TKO 115 400W 1x15 Bass Combo Amp but I want a lot more power. My guitarist uses a Marshall and the power from that amp makes my amp seem inferior.

Can anyone out here help guide me in a good direction as to what amps to really consider buying? I have played through Mark Bass, Acoustic, Fender, Crate and Peavey amps, but I know there are many brands out there that could potentially be exactly what I am looking for.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

-Christian

JMHO but I would first try adding another 15" cab running at 8 ohms to push more air and boost your power.

300 Watts @ 8 ohms
450 Watts @ 4 ohms

Add another cab, you'll get more volume.

...and, if and when you decide to step up to a bigger rig, the essentials to consider are: 300-500 watts is alot of power, BUT, for it to be loud, you need more speakers, as the 2 posters ahead of me have already said. A 4x10 should be considered the minimum amount of spkr cab (or 2x15, 6x10, 4x12, etc). Brands don't matter, that's your preference, so try everything and see what sounds good to you. Just don't skimp on the spkrs. They are so important.

I have to disagree that a 4x10 be the minimum. Since the OP already has a 15 combo, the next step wouldn't be anything but another 15. If the OP decides to start from scratch, then a nice powerful head paired with a 4 ohm 4x10 would be a nice rig.

If I misunderstood, I apologize.

Yes, you misunderstood, and we agree.
