Inexpensive Amp Suggestion for Mesa Diesel 410

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys. I am picking up a Mesa Diesel 410, and 115 (which needs replacement speaker) for 400 on saturday. I need an inexpensive amp to use with these cabinets. My budget is below about 450 dollars. Would prefer new, but used is ok. I play mainly in church, but will be starting a band heavily influenced by coldplay and muse. My church plays contemporary christian music such as Hillsong United, and Steve Fee. Help guys.

Wow. My Mesa 4x10 and 1x15 have been my mainstays for about 17 years. I paid a LOT more than that for mine. Congrats on scoring a great deal!

For the money you're looking to spend, I'd look to the used market. Considering the cabinage you've just purchased, I'm assuming that volume is part of your sound criteria. Unless you grew up on a farm, you are not going to want to heft around two VERY heavy cabinets just to play at small room volumes. I'd personally get a decent used 2-channel power amp with a good amount of power if you're planning on using both cabs in a bi-amped config. I've seen a lot of folks unloading their older, heavier gear in favor of the new lightweight amps that are flooding the market. You can score a good used 500w amp for about $250 or less. With the remaining $200, you can score a used Bass Pod XT Live (if you're into reading manuals and a headspinning array of sound options), a Tech21 VT Bass pedal or a BBE BMax preamp. I had good experience playing through a Tech21 Bass DI fed into an SWR Stereo 800, which I found used for about $250.

Just my $.02.

Used. Check out the TB classifieds. Lots of us need the latest greatest thing and sell perfectly good heads to get them.

Are both of the cabinets 8 ohms? This is important to know if you plan to use them together. Let us know what the impedance of the cabs are.
