Inexpensive rack case

I was looking for 2 or 4 space rack case for my Peavey Tmax head. That head is heavy and the weight is not evenly distributed inside the head so its hard to move around and put in the car without something getting bumped or the cord getting wrapped up.

So since I had good dealings with Kurt at Rondo I purchased a CNB 2 space rack case. It was $49, $68 shipped. It adds some weight but now that I have a handle, it makes it much easier to move around.

It has a spring loaded handle on one side, and 4 rubber feet on the other side. Its 18 inches front rack rail to rear rack rail and each cover adds an additional 2 inches each. The rack rails are not actually rack rails but just metal with holes drilled and tapped for screws unlike the clips that came with my SKB X-rack which was too short to put the Tmax in.

One issue I don't like is that the rubber feet are on the side, so I will probably drill 4 holes and put some rubber feet on the bottom as well, that way I have the ability to set it down on its side if I am carrying it and still not have it walk off my amp while I'm playing.

I think it's 1/2 inch plywood with a thin aluminum sheet on top. Its nice and smooth and the swirls remind me of a 78 Trans-am I used to have, the dash was covered in this!

Another concern I have is that the weight of the amp may be too m uch for the front rack rail being the sole point of support. So I may need to get some stiff foam or rubber to put under and on top of the amp on the inside to keep it from putting too much stress on the front rail or screws.

It weighs about 12 pounds so it has significantly added to the total carry weight of the amp, but with the handle and the cord rolled up inside the rear cover, the weight will be the least concern when moving.

$68 delivered, I likes it!!!!!

Nice! It looks cool. As usual... TB'er pics look way better than the pics on Rondomusic.com.

Here's what it looks like from the back.....if the Tmax had been just a bit longer it may not have fit!!!

also, there is no seal on the lids. Just realized that, the other rack, not the SKB, had a rubber seal. I can't remember if the X-rack had a rubber seal or not, I don't think so.....
