Hi,
I need some help regarding some bass amps I'm interested in.
I play bass for about 7 years now and I'm still playing my same old Yorkville 400b head through a Hartke XL 410 cab and I'm tired of them. My Hartke's aluminum cones are pretty much killed and I just can't get the right tone out of my Yorkville's EQ.
I really need a new amp and cab to go with my SansAmp RBI but I'm not really sure what I am looking for. I've found five amps that I'm interested in, all in the same price range (except for the GK): - Mesa Boogie M3 Carbine
- Gallien Krueger 1001
- Ampeg SVT 3 Pro
- Trace Elliot AH600-7
- EBS CL450 Classic head
The bass sound I'm aiming for is something like these: YouTube - ‪Dangerous Toys - Teas'n, Pleas'n‬‏ YouTube - ‪Annihilator - Alison Hell‬‏
I really like these tones, they cut through perfectly and sound tight, but I haven't got a clue how to get it. So can anyone tell me what EQ settings I need and which of the above mentioned amps is most likely to achieve this tone?
I play a Fender Precision with roundwounds, my main genre is classic heavy metal and most of the time I play fingerstyle.
Oh yeah, and random opinions and/or votes (poll) about these amps are also very very welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Vinnie

Btw, I forgot to mention the Eden WT550. He also looks interesting because of those midrange EQ knobs. |

I noticed you are in Belgium. Are there dealers there that carry these brands, or do you have to get them shipped over? |

Because my biggest influence is Steve Harris from Iron Maiden, so my fingerstyle attack is pretty aggressive with a lot of metallic sound. I'll better use a pick then? Quote:

I'm saying that every little movement you make, whether pick or fingers, goes into making your sound. Where you hit the string, how hard or soft you hit, whether you use a certain part of your fingers or an angle on the pick or whatever, regardless of pick or fingers (I use both but that's a choice everyone makes for themselves), your perception of music...it all goes into your style and makes you different from everyone else, even those you're trying hard to sound like. And it's way more important than the gear you use.

I just want to have an idea about their EQ settings and amplification so I can make my playing style cut through as well. |

Honestly, I love mine and it cuts throught he mix very well and you don't need to use the enhance knob to do it. Those parametric EQs are very powerful. |

Is there anyone with some info on the EBS Classic, Mesa Boogie M3 and the Trace Elliot?

| | | | GK amplifiers Although it is a biast opinion, I personally love the tones and the treble-y slap tones that you acquire from using their amps. They are also very versatile, and can be adjusted to play almost any genre of music. |

But I do use fingertapping sometimes, is GK also good for that? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
