Question Info Needed On Trace Elliot 715 Ltd Edition

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm 62 years old and started playing bass (after many years playing guitar) last October when the band my son drums with parted company with their bass player and they needed a temp!

As it was only likely to be a short gig I bought an Ibanez GSR180 bass and upgraded the pickups to alnicos and borrowed at Line 6 Lowdown 110. Although the Line 6 has a nice sound it really struggled to keep up with the drums and so I needed something cheap with a bit more welly.

On EBay a few weeks ago I bought a Trace 715 GP7 serial T0480-15-201 which I think means it is from the second quarter of 2001. Apart from the compressor which introduces a hum into the circuit everything else seems fine and it certainly fits the bill for me, even though I need a sack truck to move it around!

Thing is, the model number is 715 SC and there is a small brass plate on the top of the amp "Trace Custom, Limited Edition, 015/100" and it's covered in blue (very tatty) leathercloth and the grill and control panel are also finished in blue.

Although there is info on the net about the 715 I can't find anything about this "limited" edition which I think may just mean it's a standard 715 but in blue instead of the normal Trace green.

Can anyone help - would like to know if there was anything apart from the colour different from the standard 715.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to email Trace Elliot support it's possible someone there might have some information.

If you need service or parts, British Audio Service, Inc. is really a good company to deal with.

Got a really fast reply from Trace Elliot support. They have no specific info on my amp but confirm "Special Editions" were normally just different colours.

More importantly, they say that if I tell them what's needed to fix the compressor they can probably supply the parts.

I'm impressed.

Just an update.

After looking at costs to repair the compressor on this amp (even the charge just to have a look at it) I have bought a Behringer BLE100 for just £19.99 to give it a try after reading mostly favourable reports.

Sure it's a bit flimsy (what do you expect for £20) but that doesn't matter to me as it's left on almost all the time and it does what I need ie a bit of smoothing so I think that's a pretty cheap alternative and will do me for the time being at least.

You could always rehouse the pedal comp with something that isn't made from recycled tissue.
