Which input?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi.

I just got one of these - Markbass - Traveler 102P . 8ohm

I just want to know why there are 2 inputs on the back of it. What's the difference?

It specifically says 'Do not connect 2 amplifier channels to this connector panel'. Why would you connect 2 amp channels to the cab anyway?

Incase this is important, it also says 'SPEAKON 1+ = Signal, 1- = Ground'

Thanks.

The two inputs are the same (it doesn't matter which one you plug into). There are two there so you can daisy chain another cab cab to it. 2-8 ohm cabs will give you a 4 ohm load, so you can get the full power out of your amp (most amps, some will run down to 2 ohms).

Ok. I always thought that if you wanted to combine 2 cabs you connect one of your amp channels into one cab and the other amp channel into the other cab. I didn't know that you actually have to connect the cabs to one another.

You can do either. 99% of cabs have their jacks wired for parallel inputs. You can point to point each cab to the amp or you can run the amp to one cab then daisy chain the second cab to the first. Technically connecting both cabs to the amp is a better "fail safe" method but it really doesn't make a difference.

Occasionally this is very useful, like when I have both my cabs that only have speakon connections but I only have one 1/4" to speakon cable and I use an amp that only has 1/4" out. Then I can use my other speakon cable to chain the cabs together.

And understanding the difference between an input and an output us important. It helps you visualize and understand the signal flow. That helps you troubleshoot your rig and take care of it.

Glad BPaul mentioned this, very important to understand the difference. You plug your bass into the amps main INPUT, but spkrs are connected via a spkr OUTPUT.
