Integrity of speaker recone kits.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I just ordered a recone kit for a speaker I need to have repaired.
I've seen some how-to vids online and it seems like something I can do myself. How delicate are these things? Are installations easily botched? Another concern is that I've heard some rumors over recone kits not being as "good" as factory coned speakers, referring to sound quality, wattage handling, and likeliness to blow again. Should I get my money back and spend 3 times as much on a factory replacement speaker?

The speaker I'm referring to is a Electro-Voice 15L 400w 8ohm

Thanks.

Hi.

The recone can be only as good as the reconer .

Reconing an undistorted, non-chipped, clean gap speaker is a breeze. Measuring and otherwise making sure the basket is still reconeable is PITA, and even if everything measures/looks good, an unpleasant surprise may lurk behind the corner.

Cast baskets generally hold their shape better than the stamped steel baskets, so that's a relief for You.

Good luck, You'll going to need it.

Regards
Sam
