Issue PORTAFLEX PF-500

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello guys heres the thing,
I bought a portaflex pf-500 bass head, I play it tru an Acoustic cabinet, It sounds ok, so I was playing normally , like just practicing, at a normal volume , messing with the eq, etc, it was like the 6th time I used the amp ,then all of a sudden there was no sound, for like 3-4 seconds, and then It came back! for another 2-3 seconds , and started doing that over and over, but the amp stays on all the time, and theres no Failure light on and nothing , when the volume gets back it sounds ok , like it gets back gradually , until it get to the right volume , like if there were not enough power or something , but goes and comes, its weird, I called ampeg for the warranty but, since im in mexico , i have to get it into the states, does anybody know , what can this be, ? I mean cuz theres repair centers here but not Ampeg certified, or something. maybe its a fuse or something , any ideas?

thanks, and excuse my english

have you tried the Acoustic cabinet with a different amplifier?

have you tried the pf-500 with different instrument and speaker cables?

It's not a fuse... they either work, or don't work... no middle ground.

Clean the input jacks/effects loop, could be that simple and doesn't cost anything really.

Sounds like your protection circuit may be wonky. If you bought it new, see if you can do an exchange.

I agree, sometimes the effect send and return jacks can get corroded just from it being shipped over salt water. I would plug a cord between the effects send and return jacks and see if the problem goes away. If it does you just need to clean those jacks.
