I've Received More Compliments Lately Than Ever Before with my..........

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently put together a medium sized rig consisting of:

MarkBass F500 Head

Epifani UL310 Series II (early, lighter version that I recently bought New/Old Stock).

Upon playing it for the first time, the whole band came up to me on break and said that the rig was just killing!

The other cool thing about this light package is that in the 1/2 dozen or so gigs since getting her, I've head soooo many compliments on the tone from both soundmen and multiple basses players that have been in the crowd. I have even let a couple of players sit in on some tunes and they then start asking me about the rig ('cuz they now want to buy one just like it)!

The rig just flat-out kills. It's loud as hell too. Could not be happier.

F500 + Epi UL310 SII = TONAL BLISS!

Love that combo. The F500 is the best head I've owned to date (for my tone anyway)... punchy, loud, quick, tight, accurate, GREAT feature set, very good ID, small size, and a good 'out of the box' plug and play tone that doesn't require you to use EQ to 'make it sound OK'.

Nice match with the UL cabs also. Enjoy! I own two of them (local with the AE410 and road rig with the 410UL). If you REALLY want it quick and tight and loud, check out one with the AE410!

This is a really great set up. The F500 (F1) is a wonderful match with the UL310. Wide voiced cab with a tight, punchy, powerful head. Truly a "plug & play" set up. One of my fav's.

I played an F500 in GC about 2 weeks ago, was surprised on how tight and controlled the amp sounded yet it was VERY loud. Have not tried an an Epifani cabinet though, but the MB cabs were pretty nice too.

Good match with a fEarful 12/6?

Is the F1/F500 a good match with the fEarful 12/6? Is the fact that the fEarful is 8 ohms make a difference? Would a SD1200 be better (if voiced like the F1/F500 - which from reviews seems to be the case)?

The F1 sounds fine with a 12/6, and puts out plenty of power for that small cab IMO. Here is a clip of my F500 (same thing as the F1, since I'm running it flat), with an LDS 12/6 with the beautiful sounding Faital mid driver. It sounds glorious.

While the 15/6 at 8ohms can use quite a bit of power, the 12/6 seems to cruise along quite nicely with the 300 or so watts of the F1, and IMO a bunch of more power wouldn't make that much difference with that small cab.

blaaaah why did I have a feeling that this is what this thread was going to be about???

Don't worry! Not a bad thing...I've just been really indecisive about what rig I'm going to buy in a couple weeks - this EXACT combination had been my plan for a while. But just recently, I started leaning more towards a TC Electronics setup with the RH450 and their 2x12 cabinet.

It just figures that I'd stumble upon a thread like this to mess with my head that much more Either way, good to hear I was headed in the right direction (and still could be if the RH450 doesn't work out)

There are so many good TC deals right now. Try it!

The OP's rig sounds like something I'd like to try as well though. The UL310 is a killer cab! I'd love to hear a AE410 too though!!

I had an AE 410 for a while. Great cab but it lacked a little on the deep lows. I also had an Epi UL410 (S1) a while back and with my old LMII, the lows were a bit much at some venues, especially those with hollow stages.

The F500 / UL310 is the perfect rig for me. The head and cab are very well balanced with each other. Perfect for all of the gigs I've had her on. I've not received so many compliments on tone in such a short period of time. I've found the (or my) perfect rig!

Had yet ANOTHER bass player at my gig last night come up to me inquiring about the rig. Said he had never heard better tone. I think that I've found the holy grail of bas tone my friends!

I'm keeping tabs on this one. A light and powerful rig like this one that is reported to sound THIS good is certainly something to consider. Considering that "Quad" has gone thru so much gear, if his TB feedback is any indication, it would be wise to listen to what he is saying.

I had a similar thing going on with the Markbass F-1 and an Epifani t3x10(ceramic predecessor to the ul 3x10) and it was absolutely killing! I couldn't handle the nearly 80lbs of the cab anymore though, and have decided to go the route of 2 ul 2x10's instead, paired with the f-1. Loving it.

No, just every weekend (1 or 2 times on average per weekend)

I've been having similar experiences a LOT lately with my current setup (see signature).

It's a great feeling when YOU are happy with your tone, but it's even better (IME, anyway) when you are getting complimented about it and asked about it by other bass players.

I think you're onto something special here, Quad.

You really need to keep this on the down-low though, so as not to drive up the prices (& down the availability) of used F500's & UL-310S1.

edit: I was thinking S1 cause that's what I have in my GAS list, but you said early S2...my bad!

I have a LMII w/ a T-310 Epi that kills. Good combo between these two manufacturers...
