I lost out by $5 on an amp that is halfway across the country from me... So who got it?! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=130663949647 |

Helluva deal either way. If you lost out on it, it is because you didn't even bid half of what it was worth (;> hiding).

Ampeg B15N Flip Top Amp-A212 | eBay | I'd have to put that in the "well bought" column, and a bummer you missed it. Oh and not it.

| Well I would have had to wait until a summer road trip to pick it up anyway -- not the end of the world. I thought my SB-12 for $300 was a good deal...apparently you just have to find a really terrible ebay seller! Mine will come someday, I'm sure |

well here goes 1967 B15N CTS Speaker black tolex no dolly, maybe a replaced transformer (the left one has a rougher texture than the right one. Other than that is looks to be great (except for two missing middle pins on the side speaker input jack) why they were removed is a mystery.
I took these pictures after having played the amp on one gig. Man was the tone amazing! We played as a three piece set in an irish pub with low ceilings. At times the drummer buried me, but when he didn't the room was filled with exactly the right bass tone. I used a custom made passive, all nitro alder/ Rosewood PJ, by Angry Angus Guitars, equipped with a Lollar P and a Suhr Humphrey J, a badass bridge., DR Highbeam strings. The tone covered every thing from Hendrix, Sly stone, Janis Joplin, Bob Marley, Clapton, Bill Withers, the Meters with ease and was simply heavenly tone. Incredibly dynamic with exactly the right amount or hair on the note.
so here are the pictures:

| | | The way I see it is that you have two choices. You can beat your drummer severely about the head and shoulders, until he agrees to turn down , or you can get a matching cabinet and run a 2x15 stack. I'd go for the 2x15 stack. Congratulations on getting the new amp. |

| | | | It looks like you have a really nice '67 amp. As John said, an extra speaker cab will give you more volume to keep up with the drummer.
The solder joint on the cabinet connector looks a little iffy. I would clean it up and re-solder it. You have to be careful with those connectors, too much heat and the green plastic melts.

The transformer might have been replaced but it's regulation, just textured differently, so I wouldn't sweat it too badly. But yeah, I'd fix that speaker jack.

We had 2 guitars through twin reverbs, a Farfisa organ through a Gemini II, and a very busy drummer. I used to get drowned out and/or get pretty farty until I added that second cab. It really doubled my volume. That B-15 with 2 cabs put out 30 amazingly loud and toneful watts. It wasn't until I started to compete with a Marshall and 2 Leslies that I needed to upgrade to 100+ watts.

| | | | Some of those Leslie's can pump out a lot of low end to compete with the bass space.
A smaller Leslie such as a 147 or 125, makes a great stand to raise a B-15.

However, I'd definitely love to find an original CTS loaded 1967-68 115E or even a 2x15 column but in the mean time would you guys recommend one of the newer PF-115E s as an extension or is it a bad match?
Has anyone tried it as an extension cab to a CTS loaded B15nf fliptop? I'm actually sad that I missed that 2x15 50watter ebay auction. At least now I know they exist!

They don't sound the same, though. They sort of do but the PF115he goes a good bit lower. Not a fan of mixing cabs, especially cabs with such varied low end response. I would try it if I had one but I don't think I'd run out and buy one to try. I'd rather wait out an orphaned cab. You could have a single baffle cab made by Fliptops that will be functionally the same and look good, but it would be blue checker or black tolex and not black/silver.

I've also been looking at CTS equivalent speakers...looks like I'm going to have to scour the orphanages, or just gig with a Bergantino cab, (depending on who's behind the kit) I'm also thinking that if i'm going to replace that speaker jack I might as well go 1/4 inch. the safety feature seems to already have been disconnected and adapters or special cables have a way of getting lost 10 minutes before a gig. i'll send away for the replacement 4 pin connector from fliptops but only go back from 1/4 " when I stop gigging the amp.

any ideas? but again I'm in no rush.

| | Registered User Endorsing: Ampeg | | Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Apopka, FL | | | They don't have the piping and that's what makes the cab for me. But it's cool...anyway, Eminence Delta 15a sounds identical to the CTS speakers Ampeg used back then. Gun to my head, I can't tell the difference. I have 3 double baffle B-15 cabs...one with an Ampeg branded CTS from 1966, two with Deltas, and they all sound the same to me. I hear the Beta 15a is also very similar and costs less, but I've yet to hear it.
