I have an Eminence Kappa Mid Bass speaker in it -
Same speaker fliptops uses when they build their 70's 15 cab.

Ric | Looks like a BT15 tower to me. My BT15 extension looks exactly the same despite having a double line of piping. The B-15's had a front lip on top, right? |

It sounds freakin awesome, but the best part is its super cardioid design has a very tight pickup pattern that virtually eliminates mic-bleed issues. (it hardly picks up any of the loud drums or guitar amps located close by like most other mics do)

| | | | A lot of people like the EV RE-20.
You have to be careful when buying a used mic. You don't want to wind up with one with issues. At least with a new one you have a guaranty that it will perform to the manufacturers spec. If you trust the seller and know its background you can get a good deal. But even a mic that was cared for can have issues, foam deteriorates, plastic can shrink and crack, etc. These sort of things can cause rattles.
The nice thing about EV is that they offer a flat rate repair. They rebuild the mic. If you can find a broken one at a good price, it might pay off to have it fixed.

I mic'd it with a PR40 and did use a sansamp pbddi. we brought our own soundman and i asked him for a 50/50 mix and told him to tweak as needed. he's the best sound guy i've ever seen so i trust him. volume set between 12 and 1 on the amp. it was a tight stage but i had plenty of volume behind me.
anyway, here's a crappy video of the results. turns out a b-15-n can also play loud rock and roll. sorry, mr. hull. http://youtu.be/1vcgMKfxWJ0

I just moved, was chatting up a neighbor who was a bassist in his youth and was telling me about all the juicy gear he used to have. . . anyhow, he's telling me about his buddy's b-15 whos flip top was automatic!
Just wondering if that was a stock thing, or someone's mod?? Sounds interesting (and totally over engineered - yet somehow VERY cool!) |

In 1966 Jess Oliver, the inventor of the B15 and the Portaflex concept quit Ampeg and started his own company. At the time the patent on the Portaflex fliptop was still in force so he had to come up with a new way to store and access the amp head. What he came up with was the Powerflex, which used a converted sewing machine motor to raise and lower the head via an internal elevator mechanism:
Here is a link to a video that kind of shows one in operation: P502

| | | I often run more powerful amps into PA speakers as they are good for bass. I came across these 16 ohm Ampeg S-48 columns. Each one has four 8" speakers and two tweeters. I was thinking that they might be cool to run a pair in parallel for 8 ohms with a B-15. Nice and portable for an 8x8 pair. Whenever I see them, the price is always a little too steep.
The porting is similar to what you see on some of the Ampeg 215 cabs.
