This is a 1962 - I recently found the hang tag and original purchase receipt!

Sweet! A little worse for wear but I'm sure it still sounds awesome.

I still have not rebuilt the member list or added the new members who joined shortly after my computer crash a couple weeks ago. Apologies for dragging my feet, but I'll try to get it done later tonight or tomorrow.

Looks great. I was just looking at a '67 B-18 at guitarbroker.com (Weston, FLorida), they are asking $2500. Not as nice as yours.

East Village music in NYC (evmnyc.com) has what they are calling a 61-62 head for $700. The image isn't clear so I can't see if it is really that old.

Shows what a deal the one in PA is.

If anyone here is close to that B15 on craigslist (Nazareth), and is willing to pick it up and ship it, please pm me. 100% serious. it would be very happy living with the NRF cab I bought from Bass45.

Thanks

Talked to the owner today. I'm picking it up this weekend.

I'd love to take the Martin factory tour in Nazareth. Perhaps even have a chance to play one of these Klaus Voormann basses. It's bound to sound great through a portaflex amp.

This Martin bass sounds nice. I did a gig with an acoustic Godin bass through my B-15 and loved it. The neck was thinner than a Jazz bass, really fast, and felt perfect.

Given his track record with B15's, I suspect it's still very much for sale, just not for the $900 (or less!) that he will have paid for it

Be sure to post lots of pics when you get it!

how flex is portaflex

Hi folks,

I have an old portaflex, (from the early sixties I was told when I bought it 8 years ago), which has a 1/4 TR connector labelled "ext amp". I assume this is a line output connector. My question, which I hope has not been asked a zillion times before, is: can I use the head as a preamp, (i.e. without connecting the poweramp output to the portaflex cabinet)? I'm just wondering how it would sound through one of my other rigs, but don't want to damage it...

Jim

BTW, when I bought the amp, the connector to the cabinet had been moded to a 1/4" jack. I had it converted back to the XLR type of connector.

You can absolutely NOT hook up a tube amp without hooking up the cab, unless you want to buy a new output transformer. You could, however, get an 8 ohm dummy load and hook it up instead of the speaker and use it that way.

My brother bought me a 1970 B15 today. I'm headed up to go play it/pick it up next weekend.

That lucky sob had his mortgage paid off, so now he does stuff like this for family.

I'm so excited, why can't it be next weekend yet?

Thanks Jimmy. I thought it might switch off the internal power amp if I connected up to an external power amp. I can get a 100watt 8 ohm resistor for about 15 bucks on ebay, so if I do decide to try it I'll go that route...

I'm not sure, but you may just need to pull the output tubes in the B-15, but get another opinion before you try this.
