Jess Oliver's legacy - AMPEG PORTAFLEX CLUB part 9

I was going to choose a thread title that made a joke about a thread discussing an amp design from the 60s reaching part 9, but it was tasteless.

Anyway, here's the last question from part 8...

Ya, save the tastelessness for Facebook

Duke, your tone starting warming up near the end, but it sounds like you used the tweeter, and old B-15's don't have tweeters. However, I could picture it as being in the realm of the B-15 with the tweeter off.

My settings on this take are:
Gain: 15:00
Bass: 12:00
Mids: 15:00
Mids shift: 14:00-15:00
Treble: 13:00
Master: 100%

So, as you see i go for a rather high-mids dominant tone, and I play with a pick. I've have no idea what is going on with the tweeter, thus if it is on or off, could not see any option on the app regarding this.

My tone is warming up towards the end because I press inn the push-pull switch to engage "modern" tone on the bridge pup.

I don't own a B-15, but do own an Ampeg V4 and CL and just sold my MESA 400+. Most of the time the sims sound too sterile and clean in the high end, and seem to have too much high end. Usually the tube amps and cabs add more harmonics, smooth out the high end, and remove all that clear bite. Particularly without horns/tweeters. But it could just be me.

Haaaa yeah the virtual club is starting like a joke really i like the virtual club member #....... It is a place to talk that stuff. Without taking up the actual portaflex club thread. Point any questions that come up to the virtual thread please.

Sorry JimmyM but....I'm afraid the vt deluxe is a real pedal and not virtual enough....... JK

Who's giving out the virtual numbers?

I know, I know, no pics no (virtual) B-15R, but trust me that in this case it would look almost the same as what Adam posted...

PC, and I was just trying it out in a demo.

And I figured that the VTD wouldn't get me in 2 minutes after I posted that. Drat...now I can't be in the cool kids group!

Jimmy, you are one of the coolest guys here at TB, but, the VT pedal is more of a virtual Ampeg emulator spanning from SVT to B15, so it's not a real B15 and not a virtual B15....
But we will really like you to visit our thread and listen to our clips as you are the chief of the real B15 club. We do want to know how good is the virtual B15.

Well the problem is I've never played a B-15R so I don't know how it compares to it. Maybe go ask Justin Meldal-Johnsen. He uses a B-15R extensively, and I'm sure he's used the Amplitube.

Are the tone differences between the various B15 models so big? I would assume they have about the same sonic signature?

David,
I'll get to that as my own internal processor is on overload from staring a a babe surrounded by a field of bits.

You need to ask Bass 45. He gigs his B15R a lot, and he also owns/owned lots of different B15 and B15n models.

He sold me my very first Ampeg back in 2006. (B100R) I've just recently re-connected and become pretty good buddy's with him (and finally got to see him preforming on stage). His knowledge of Ampegs never fails to amaze me
