From what i remember Baird had a Modulus 5 and he was overdriving Monique very quickly so I passed this info onto him right after he got his Monique and seemed to have been super Happy ever since! It may be I good Idea to put in the manual that this is possible with basses with very Hot Active Pres in them only is they come across this?I thought something was wrong with Monique at first til I figured out that there is so much that it is capable of doing! I have to say, I've been in a couple of other "club" threads and when I ask a question I end up getting ignored. That's super cool that so many of you took the time to respond to question.
I really appreciate!

Verrrrrrrry niiiiiiiiice toobalicious tube tone! Warm, powerful, yet articulate. I only played it in my home today by myself, but I have no doubt this tone will cut though the mix in a band setting (which, IMO, is absolutely critical).
And that sensitivity knob is fun to play with! Jule could have just labeled that knob "FUN" and it would have been accurate! Just dial in how much FUN you want!
I only had about an hour to spend with Monique today, but I can tell that there is alot of tonal flexibility.
Being the notorious tube roller that I am, I will probably end up installing some nice NOS tubes just for fun (only because I can't help it......it's a disease I suffer from!)
Jule really has a winner with Monique! I have bought and sold a plethora of bass gear over the past 40 years of playing bass, and I change gear like I change my socks (in my case, BASS seems to stand for Buy And Sell Stuff). But I don't see me letting Monique go anytime in the foreseeable future. Why would I?? There isn't anything to upgrade to at this point! IMO, Monique is the pinnacle of bass preamplification! | I really enjoyed reading this! Thank you very much! Feel free to report back once you've spent some more quality time with her.
Within the end of next week I should be able to share my feelings as well, if all goes as planned... |

That is quite a range.
The easy way to handle this would be to put a pad up front. Unfortunately I dislike them. They seem to mask some playing characteristics. Things start to slow down. I appreciate you passing this on to the Monique Community. |

Both are fantastic.. I got the Kern which I've been looking for after I received the Monique and thought I would keep just one of them.. But I love them both.. Theres a few guts here who have owned both and could probably give you a more in-depth detail... |

I had originally included a good bit of comparison dialog between the two in my Monique review, but I had to trim most of it out for space reasons. I'll try to find my notes again, but I agree that Monique does a slightly better job at the Ampeg range of tones (notably, it can do tones reminiscent of an SVT, B-15, or V-4B). The Kern is a bit more clean and lush. Both are killer, and I'd have a hard time deciding between the two if I could only keep one. |

I agree with SCT's and Tom's comments above.
Those two preamps are two flavors of good. It just depends on what flavor you happen to prefer.
If I had to choose between the two, I would take the Monique. IMO, Monique has a broader range of tones. But the Kern is certainly no slouch. Again, it just depends on what you like.

To me the Kern was the top of the heap in sound and in build quality ceramic sockets and all. The Monique has more available gain/ability to drive an amp louder while sounding clear.
I love the Kern. If the Monique hadn't appeared it would be my top tube choice. For SS you owe it to yourself to try the Glock BAC.
For me you can set the Kern and get the most out of it that it can deliver. That was a lot of great gigs. The Monique just keeps giving tonal variation without compromising performance between tonal settings.
YMMV, the Monique is three dimensional compared to other pres. The huge non choked sound will deliver the clear, driven and clear or good dirty at any show.
While Ampeg references are made the way it sounds for me is more Showman like pre at 2 through McIntosh tube amps or the sound of a Sunn 2000s before it distorts. The tone controls exceed what amps of the past could do while delivering that feel and tug.

subjectively nicer than both to my ears. Richer and quicker
than the Kern and warmer than the BassArt..... |

I ended up getting a Little Mark Tube to use as a power amp, which is really nice since it has roughly the same footprint, and I have a very interested buyer for one of my other amps.
I'm starting to get really excited. I just wish I could find a way to get the Monique and keep my SVT.

The Monique is in another realm. |

IMHO Monique is more articulate and seemed to have lows that were a little more solid sounding and more my "vibe". The mids also seemed to have more character/texture to them. The Kern is no slouch though. Definitely a great pre. |

FX loop......
The Monique is the best front end I have heard... |
