| | Registered User Endorsing Artist: Spector Basses | | Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Leesburg, VA | | Hey guys,
I am DANGEROUSLY close to pulling the trigger on a rack mount Monique. For now, I'm thinking about pairing it with my MB800 or my Mesa M9. If it's not fussy about the power amp I'm leaning toward the MB800 since it's class D, light and 1U.
What I want to know though is will it bring enough grit without external pedals, etc.? I'm not talking full on OD or anything, just some nice, tubey grit that I'm addicted too with my '72 SVT.
You guys that play them is it reasonable to expect this much grit? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISwzvzi0nLc
Now before I get slammed, yes I know Flea here is playing a Wal, maybe through his GK 800RB and there is a lot of fret buzz but this is about all the grit I need. I just chose this as an example of the dirty tone I'm going after. Not too tart, not too sweet.
Also, I've read through but what are the EQ center points? Thanks fella's. I'm GASSING bigtime for one of these, just want to make sure it will pull off what I'm after.

He wanted to try so he plugged his '59 Strat in. He was amazed that when you crank or uncrank the Sensitivity knob the tone didn't change. You just gave it more edge. This edge could be called response because it accentuates your touch. So if it's gritting and you back off and play lightly the grit goes away.
Full off and it's this clean phat tube sound. It's just not continuously dirty if you aren't digging in.
Monique responds well to pedals so depending on what you want you may wish to add one. |

Who was it that suggested, "De-Monique." | Thought you did that a month ago. Well it should be cool and cause a lot of folks to upgrade Very cool that Demeter is onboard with you.

I should also mention that the signal I got from the pup was kind of weak, so I used my Darkglass b7k to beef up the sound going into the amp. I kept the eq on the b7k close to flat except for a slight bass cut.
Personally I liked the sound I got out of the upright/Monique combo very much. The eq on Monique is very musical and effective, but at the same time doesn't seem as drastic as on some other amps, if that makes any sense. I felt it was very easy to dial in a nice sound. For upright I preferred to keep the sensitivity low, as opposed to on electric, where I like to hear the tube grit that high sensitivity settings gives you. For me it seems that running any bass, be it upright or electric, through the Monique, adds a very musical and dynamic feel to the sound, and just makes playing the instrument even more fun. |

Jule has made Monique in a way that I can't imagine what you will make it do. The controls aren't a limiting element.
