Hey what's up fellow bass players! First time posting, but have been doing research but just can't find a decent tip.
Ok so I just bought a svt 4 pro ampeg head.....super good deal. I playing a reggae/rock band....think slightly stoopid/sublimish that genre of music. I play a Warwick corvette rockbass. My question I guess would be what would you guys recommend as a cab setup. 8x10, two 15s, 4x10 and 2x15, 4x10 and 1x15, maybe some twelves I dunno. I have always been playing with combo amps and they just don't have what I want. I bought the ampeg because of the massive different tonal options it has and also to use it as a power amp for external pre amp and junk.
I currently play a gk mb115 combo and it sounds awesome on the low end with the e string but not enough shove with the a string...which is clutch to have in a reggae band. So please any suggestions on which setup would be nice to get more bump out of my mids.
Thank you so much y'all

Besides, your perception of sound will have little in common with another random person on the internet. You might as well close your eyes and have a blind man describe the Mona Lisa to you. |

The GK MB115 is a decent combo, but with your 4 PRO, you can easily power a much bigger cabinet setup. You will get more volume and better tone out of a larger cabinet over ANY combo out there. Start playing different cabs and see which one sounds better to you. Take your 4 Pro to the store and try out other cabs.
Do you have the mono-bridging cable for the 4 PRO? Have you made one yet? Really easy to do so....
Find one cab you like and get two IDENTICAL cabs. One for small stages and two cabs for bigger stages. If you like an 810, all you need is one. |

| | | | Brian,
usually reggae- low end-15's. I would demo some cabs in Guitar Center with your head. You should get the sound you want with some adjustments to the highs, mids, and lows on the amp.Take your time. Your sound is YOUR sound so it is hard for someone else to tell you what you will like. Also, price, weight, size, and gigs you are playing, come in to play. I like my 4x10 GK neo with my old ampeg V4B or my GK 700rb. Lastly, string height on you bass makes a difference.Give that a look, too.
Good luck,
Danny

| | | | Hey thx alot guys! As far as string height goes, I lowered them pretty low and the e string just rumbles. when you say mix match cabs, are you referring to speaker sizes or different brands?
Also, regarding the two cabs, anyone have experience running them bi amped or should I just mono bridge them, the svt 4 has the option to stereo bi amp them.
So basically what you are saying is that a 8x10 can get just as low as a 2x15, just a matter of how I eq my amp yeah? |

Same brand cab and same model - that will sound excellent 99% of the time. The 1% is factoring in manufacturing defects. Mixing one brand's 15 and a different brand 210 is GENERALLY not going to sound good. You will have to try many different brands to get a good sound when combining them - it's mostly a waste of money and effort to do so.
You could also create a bi-amp setup with the 4 PRO - one cab for the lows and one for the mids and highs. Commercial bass cabs are not well designed for that though and you are better off sending a full range signal to identical cabs.
Modern day Reggae bands are easily getting the job done with Ampeg 810's, just depends on the sound you are going for. |
