Holy crap, this thing is everything I've hoped for. I've been looking for one for years. It nails all of the 70s Phil Lesh tones. If you're thinking about getting one, DO!

Where'd you get such a good deal? It's over $900 on planetbass.com.

Looks/sounds great with the F-1X. I work at a music store. A co-worker bought it for the store but couldn't figure out how much it's worth. He looked at the Blue Book, eBAY, etc. So, he made what he thought was a safe offer, and the seller accepted. Apparently, the seller was storing it for a ex-band member who stopped playing bass and is on a spiritual path (no material possessions?)

There's more to the story- I had seen the exact unit a few months back when I auditioned for said seller's band. I inquired about it, but he said it wasn't his and wasn't prepared to sell it for the owner. I didn't end up playing for the band. I stopped in my store yesterday and my co-worker thought I might be interested in something with the name 'Alembic' on it. My jaw dropped. Coincidentally, I ran into the guy who sold it 2 hours later when I went out to eat at an Indian restaurant; he was dining at the table across from me. I hadn't seen him in months. Strange!

Ah, Indian food in Berkeley!

Do you prefer the SF-2 as a straight eq or for obviously warped/affected tones?
