Just finished my build for some 12" Kappalite's

Sign in to disble this ad
Built 2 seperate cabs each to house one 12". Used aero ports about 13 inches long in a 2.52 internal box volume. Had to use 90 degree elbows to turn the ports down so as to keep them from being to close to the back of the box. Glued, screwed and finsihed off with a material similar to rhino liner but not as rough. This was my first bass cab build.

Very interesting looking cabs, but I absolutely hate those kinds of handles.

Flip the top one so all the ports are together and the drivers are wider apart. It will look like it's ready to fire a massive quad cannon of bass right in the gut!

Very nice by the way, but is there a reason the handles on the top box are in a different spot than the bottom? Be sure to post some sound clips so we can all hear what they sound like thru our awesome 2" computer speakers.

Cool looking cabs. Now you just need a circular grille for each with teeth painted on ...

Looks like we have the same oldschool snappy box too. Might that be an old KRL1000? The handle gave it away.

Sweet cabs too dude!

My helper cut the handle holes on the wrong send but at 22.5 inches tall it should not be an issue. Flipping them will solve that problen too!

Great idea, will be adding more feet tomorrow! Thanks for the heads up!

They look great where they are. But ports are non-directional, so it doesn't matter from an acoustic perspective.

Why do you use two HUGE ports?
The problem is, you'll get a serious standing wave in those tube's because they are so long. It will give you some colouration in the low/mid band. One port would have been adequate, then it could have been made shorter.

Just my 2 cents.

The Eminence large cab design called for two 4" ports of a certain length tuned a 44hz. I souped them up by going with the new Aero Ports which are supposed to give about 3db gain, the ports are flared both in and outside the cabinet...smooother airflow results in less noise/chuffing ect.

And yes they are two cabs each designed for one 12" Kappalite 3012lf. Trust me when I say I did tons of homework before putting these together as it was a lot of work. These have been modified to be tuned right about 41hz based on the port tube length. According to the Eminence specs they should run almost flat out to 1k. I have the pdf file if anyone is interested, it has all the charts/specs and required port length, box volume ect. Thanks!

Most say that if you have a 4" port you do not want it any closer than 4" off the back wall of the cab, same for 3" ect. I had to use 90 degree elbows to turn them down because I was too close to the back wall. I designed them so the on axis sound was going towards the player and not off to the sides, drummer might hear a little much boom....plus it will help project more of the non=directional freqs towards the audience.

The design is based of the Eminence design for a large vented enclosure tuned at 44hz, I dropped it to about 41. Eminence makes a pretty sweet software set up for design using theyre stuff.

Over 2 years ago I listened to 3012LF at the same tuning and box size, didn't think they sounded so great as full-range speakers. Just listened to 'em again, full range. Nope, still don't do it for me. Mid drivers and/or compression driver on waveguide make for a lot more flexibility.
