just found a JMI VOX AC4 almost mint

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I know this is a bass amp forum but I was cleaning out some stuff I had in my shop, stuff I've been collecting over the years and I found an almost mint early 60's Jennings Musical Instruments VOX AC4 guitar amp...I don't even know how I got it!

I just looked up on fleabay what they were going for and I almost fell out of my rocker...$1300 and up

Does anyone know anything about these amps? Are they really this collectible?

Cripes!

Not a lot of info more than that they were made in the early 60s and thatthey started out life as an AC2 (virtually no difference between that and the AC4).

I think I might see a new bass in my future

Lets see some pictures.

And its worth a lot because its a "REAL" Vintage VOX.

A real vintage TUBE VOX at that.

I would be very interested in seeing a photo of this amp. I grew up with VOX amps and was very familiar with the entire range of JMI amps. I've never even heard of an AC4. To my knowledge the "smallest" VOX of that era was the AC15.

The best place to go for hard-to-find guitar amp info is TGP.

Well, Vox presently has the AC4TV re-issues out, and those are pretty sweet little amps. I'm sure the AC-15 was more popular back in the day, but they've been around for a while, the AC4 I mean.

Here's a few pictures of it:

Front

Back

8" speaker

back tag

Close up back tag

Top controls and original cast aluminum footswitch

Everything works on it and it doesn't sound too bad either. Probably could use a cap job but going to leave it alone for now...

The only thing that's missing on it is one of the cooling vent grills on top...I'll have to see if I can locate one somewhere.

There is a bit of schmutz on the front grill cloth. I need to figure out what it is and see if I can remove it somehow. Like I said, I have no idea where or how I ended up with this amp...

Enjoy the pix...

Enjoy sir!

Long before MY time, though....

Kind of like VOX's Champ.
