Just got my GK NEO212 and my Shuttle STL6, but I have a question.

Hey Everybody,

I just received my new gear (except for the GK Speakon Cable, have to call Sweetwater about that), but I have a question regarding ohms.

According to the manual on the STL60, I should run a 4ohm minimum load. However, I have an 8ohm 212. Is it safe to run the head with the cab (after I acquire a cable tomorrow)? Obviously I have to run it in Full-Range, not biamp, but is it safe to run it at 8 ohms?

Thanks,

OsoMejor

Yes its fine. You can add another 8 ohm cab and run the amp at its full 4 ohm load.

The manual isn't saying you "should"run it at 4 ohms, it means that it's rated to drive a minimum load of 4 ohms. Anything lower than that will cause the amp to fail or at the very least shut down in protection mode.

As stated, adding a second 8 ohm cab will result in a combined 4 ohm load and the amp will sound really sweet. Adding a 4 ohm cab would result in a combined load of under 4 ohms = bad.
