Just ordered the MarkBass NY 151 cab for my Berlin combo, what should I expect ???

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was on the fence about getting the new G-K stuff (the MB210 or MB212) but in the end decided and last night ordered the MarkBass NewYork 151 cab to match up with the MarkBass 115 Berlin combo I currently own.

It will be a week or so until the NY 151 cab is delivered and I am on pins and needles wondering what to expect in the way of volume, tone, power, ect ,,,,,.

So what should I expect when I hook these two up together ????

Will the difference be slight,,,, or will it knock my socks off ???

Cheers

If your experience is anything close to being like mine when I hooked up my 151P extension to my 102P combo, it will certainly knock your socks off. The extra speaker coupled with the increased headroom as the amp is running into a lower load makes a huge difference.

Here's what to do.

When you cab arrives, stack up your rig, but don't connect the new cab just yet. Play a low E on your bass at moderate volume. Then plug in the new cab (turn the amp off first if you don't want to plug in while it's running, but I've never known any problem to be caused by connecting an extra cab to a combo that's turned on). Play your low E again...

Let us know what you think when you try this.

Bill

PS - Could you take a minute to fill out your profile, please, especially the "location" field? It's nice for us to know whereabouts you're posting from. Thanks.

This forum has been very helpfull to me since I joined in 2008, I should have made myself a supporting member long ago,,, this forum is well worth the price of admission.

That's good to hear, very nice to have you on board!

Be sure to let us know how that new cab works out, as I mentioned. I've had my Markbass stuff a while now (combo for 4 years and extension cab just over 2) and it still impresses the hell out of me every single time I play through it.

And to respond to your earlier comment about your BEAD tuning - I don't go so low that often myself, but I do have one 5er in the collection. The low B sounds great through my rig and yes, the extension cab does make a terrific difference.

Cool,,,,,, Im getting a bit excited to hear my MarkBass with the extension cab,,, it will be a long week waiting for delivery.

I play in two bands, one a classic rock band and the other a blues rock band,,, most of the time playing clubs small to med size,, both bands play semi-loud and I have never had to max out my Berlin 115 combo but I have come close, it will be nice to have the extra headroom and give the guitars and drums a run for their money.

Cheers

That extra headroom is what does it for me - the combo sounds good on its own and I've never felt it couldn't keep up, but sometimes it does sound as if it's sort of trying hard when really pushed. Sound projection is just effortless with the extra cab, I always feel as if the whole rig has gallons of gas left in the tank, if you know what I mean.
