Just picked up an SVT-6

Hey guys,

I just bought an SVT-6 for a smokin' low price. I was in the market for an amp of this nature (high power, tube pre, reliable, gig worthy) after going through a serious all-tube amp phase. I'm still in love with the tube amps, but need something a bit more versatile and portable for the amount of gigging I'm doing these days.

Firstly, does anyone on here have an SVT-6? I don't think I've ever seen one mentioned and they've been discontinued for a while now.

I've only had the chance to rehearse with it, but I'll be gigging with it tomorrow. So far I feel like it's got that SVT tone, however it seems to be a bit more punchy than the SVT-3 and SVT-4. I've played the 2,3,4, and CL at different points when they were supplied as backline at gigs. They've all got that Ampeg mojo, syrupy low end with a nice mid hump. This one seems to have it's own thing going on. This could be because I'm having a hard time dialing in the parametric EQ on it (I'm way more at home with a graphic EQ), and it might be just different. Does anyone else out there share my feelings or should I just keep tweaking to find that familiar tone? It's not that far off now, just a bit more modern sounding than I expected.

Any input would be grand!

I used to have one, and loved it. Set all the dials to straight up noon, and only tweak where there's problems. The amp is quite powerful, and the tube voltage works the opposite way you might think it does. At full off, (100 volts), and the gain above noon, it gets a good grind. Loud, but grindy. Don't over-do the eq, just run it flat.
