New Cab Day: Emperor 2x15"

Sign in to disble this ad
I just put my deposit down on an Emperor 2x15" cab, black cab and grill, with two Celestion BL15-400x speakers creating a 4 ohm load. 26" wide x 40" tall.

Unfortunately I can't say I've been slaving to save up the money for it because it just kind of fell in my lap like it always does when I want something expensive, but I'm still excited.

I wanted this cab because I'd like to build myself the best rig possible for what I want, and although the Ashdown cab I'm using works great, I felt a custom 2x15" would be even better! I've already got basses and an amp that I just love, so this was the logical choice.

Anyways I just wanted to share my excitement, I'll let you guys know when I get the cab and how it sounds.

I tried to find them and could only get to a page showing photos of their products......They look great . I have a 215 Fender Pro cab that is built like a tank....($1000).Custom cabs are of course more $$$ but should be worth it. . .

I'm curious to hear how much you're paying fully for the cab, if that's okay.

All told it's $995. Their 2x15"s for bass are $795, which might include shipping I'm not sure, and it was an extra $200 for the speakers I wanted, Eminence speakers are included in the $795, but the Celestions are much more expensive. The Eminence's they use handle 300 watts each where my Celestions will handle 400 each and are eight ohm so I'll have them wired in parallel for a four ohm load.

I really don't think that's a bad price at all for a custom 2x15", and with the expensive speakers I want. Actually I think Emperor cabs are quite reasonable. They're also very nice about giving you an estimate, which you can request on their website, for any cab you'd like. They got back to me quickly, within one business day.

Got word the cab is in the works. Now I have to be patient, which I can do. Going to have lots of fun with that bugger though.

Ok I'll try to get some pictures when I can. But it's really a lot easier for me to just do soundclips because I have recording gear but no camera.

Ok as far as photos go this is the best I can do with my phone since I don't have a camera. The finish and grill are black, not that you can tell with the way my phone is reacting to the light down here, but the wood is actually really nice looking.

The cab is at least 40" tall and 26" wide. Wide enough to accomodate a JTM45, so I may have to spring for one of those sometime. And tall enough so that the top speaker is at guitar level for me so I can get the harmonic feedback I need from this cab with a good bit of fuzz. I can also obviously hear myself nice and clearly with this as opposed to having one 15" on the floor.

The speakers are Celestions, although not the ones I asked for. They couldn't get those from the Celestion rep and as a result the cab was cheaper for me, altogether 1000$ shipped. I suspect they're Truvox's or whatever Celestion's Pro Audio speakers are. Perhaps a little too hi-fi for me, but I'll do clips of this cab tomorrow so you can see how you feel (though I'm not playing a hi fi head, thank god).

It does sound good, however, the speakers are just accurately reproducing the distorted roar of my cranked Marshall amp. I'll have to see if I can boost things loud enough to get my desired amount of compression out of these speakers.

I decided I wanted a 2x15" instead of 2 1x15"s to have one less trip, and I didn't want some horn loaded piece of garbage, horns are an abomination and have no place in rock and roll.

I also wanted it to be top quality, but simple. This thing is just a huge wooden box with a couple of 15's in it. That's all I wanted.

And then there's the image thing. Markbass, Hartke, GK, Carvin, Genz Benz, these are all companies whose products I'm not going to buy because I don't like their aesthetics (not to mention tone). I'm not a hi fi and/or solid state guy that needs a dozen knobs to make my farging ugly coffee table wood bass sound ok and my gear makes that pretty clear. I want my gear to match the simple, gut level distorted rock and roll that's coming out of it and of course it has to sound good at it too.

I like the way you think.

This is with flats on my bass. I will record more clips later with rounds on. Sorry for the aimless noodling. That is with just the bass channel of the Soultone 2061X. I might do clips with both channels too with rounds to see how that sounds.

so, ive been interested in these, but heres my questions on em....
1) Are these things as BEASTLY heavy as they look?!!
2) Do they have ANY sort of wheels or tilt bar or anything? cos a hulkingly big as they look it would be a total B!T@# to move if they didnt...
