This was a bad week for me. On Wednesday night, my wife discovered that my complete Yorkville rig was stolen from our condo's storage locker. It was a great setup that has served me very well for the past several years. It was made up of an XS800H head, an XC210 cab and an XC115 cab. I loved that rig and, needless to say, I was pretty distraught, especially since I have a gig next week.
But, today, I put an end to the sorrow and put together a whole new rig. I headed down to my local L&M (Canada's Long & McQuade music store chain) to test out some gear. As luck would have it, they had a used XS800H in stock, and at a too-good-to-pass-up price. So, that was a great start. But then, it was time for the cabs. I was very interested in the Traynor NEO line, primarily because of the drastically reduced weight (thanks to the neodymium magnets and lighter plywood box construction). I was worried that the NEO line would be a bit of a compromise tone-wise compared to the regular TC line, especially since I'm playing a lot of 5-string these days. With the salesman's help, I extensively A/B-ed the NEO 410 against the regular TC410. Although there was a bit of a discernible difference in tone, I felt it wasn't significant enough. And, I just couldn't get past the benefits of the lighter weight.
So, after all the dust settled, I walked (or, should I say, rolled) out of there with an XS800H, a Traynor NEO 410 and a NEO 210. What a noble stack!
My old Yorkville rig was great. But, it might be possible that this new rig might be just a little bit greater. I'll test it out at the upcoming gig and post a review.
I continue to be impressed with the quality, tone and features of Yorkville/Traynor products. And, you just can't argue with the price! |

Too bad about the old one. I hope the jerk that stole your old rig drops that XS800 head squarely on the top of his loser foot.

and people who steal amps should be punished

Joking aside, I'm sorry for your loss. I've had three basses stolen in my time and it's the worst feeling!!
If you are mixing a 2x10 and a 4x10 the 2x10 NEEDS to be twice the impedance of the 4x10. So an 8Ω 2x10 mated with a 4Ω 4x10. That way all the drivers are receiving about the same power. If they are the same, the 2x10 will get the same power as the 4x10 and will fail sooner or later.

The police got involved immediately. l emailed a photo of the rig and they are supposedly circulating it around the usual spots.
I will be keeping an eye on the local pawn shops, as well as checking craigslist frequently. |
