Just reporting my thoughts

I just finished an outdoor gig in Los Angeles as a substitution bass player.

I use a Carvin DCM2000L power amp and the Boss GT10B as a pre-amp (slightly distorted), a dbx EQ, power conditioner and a Mesa 2X15 Powerhouse Bass Cabinet. I use a Rickenbacker 4003 modified with a toaster pickup at neck position and a horseshoe pickup at bridge. Essentially the same configuration as the CS model---but with the extras of a 4003.
I bought a new set of GHS Boomers 45-100 strings for good measure.

I am so happy, that I just HAD to post that I have truly found my tone. All of the gear was new (except my bass), and I had never REALLY heard it in a band situation.

Dude--it sounds KILLER. It really captured Paul D'amour's tone from Tool's album Undertow-which I have sought religiously throughout the years...FINALLY! The clarity and simultaneous bottom end really shook the crowd and later, even long-time fans and friends said that it was soo cool to finally REALLY hear a solid bassline in the music (all due respect to their bassist of course). I had a LOT of fun, and I couldn't be happier.

Sunn.

Sounds like a fun gig. I had a moment like that- playing my P through an Ampeg B2-RE/410HLF stack. That was my lightbulb moment with bass.

Congrats! Tell them to call you if the other bassist just isn't working out ;-)

Always a great gig when you nail the tones you want. Nice going!

Congrats! Not much better a feeling than that. Well done!

Yeah, it was great because the BL approached me and let me know that his other bassist may be "becoming more and more occupied" family-wise... Their drummer jokingly asked me if I want to tour Japan with them, hahahaha! He seemed the most happy that I was there.

In terms of attack, he said that I really nailed it-and it really showed on stage! I had never seen the band MOVE so much on stage as a fan and audience memeber! hahaha!

So he told me to keep up my chops on their music for any future shows that may come up. I got paid for playing AND got free dinner and beer after the show!

My band recently broke up, so I've spent the last few months as a bass for hire just to experiment with different amps and cabs combinations, and I have to say, I am really happy with the setup.

MY new band (heavy, tool, deftones-type sound) is really happy as well with my final amp choice!
