Just scored an Eden 410XLT

Sign in to disble this ad
I just scored a used Eden 410XLT 4ohm cabinet. This is a huge upgrade from my Laney RBW300 that I've rocked for the last 9 years. I plan on pairing this cab with a Gallien Krueger 1001rbii.

Any thoughts on this?

I've heard practically nothing but wonderful things about the Eden and I'm a huge fan of the GK tone. It's right up my alley in terms of a punchy, middy, attack driven aggressiveness (I play mostly rock). If I ever need to alter my tone I usually just do it on the bass itself ( a 2004 Warwick LTD FNA Jazzman). It's got tonal options up the wazzoo.

I don't want to ever have to worry about having enough power or volume again and I don't ever plan on adding another cab (which is why I picked up the 4ohm). I think this pair will be a match made in heaven for me but I'd still like your thought about this setup.

Yours is the ONLY opinion that matters. Enjoy the rig.

Are they really that heavy? I have a D410T and it's surprisingly light, at least to me!

The XLT has two shelf ports, bigger cab more wood more mass.

I just traded one away because of the weight actually.

The website says 100 lbs I think, but it's so big that without a handle on the top it was really hard to get leverage on the damn thing.

I guess that's it - the D410T is rear-ported only, so no shelves. Nice and compact, and one of the best features of Eden cabs that I've seen but is rarely mentioned - the offset handles which allow you to hold the cab easier when carrying it! I haven't seen too many other manufacturer's copy that, but it's a very smart design feature.

Congrats!

I think you will like that match up a lot. I have a D410XLT 8ohm, running with a Genz Benz SM 9.2 head. Those cabs sound great.

I love my 410 XLT, but it is a pig weight wise.

Nice score and congrats on the new setup.

+1 to what RickenBoogie said, if you get what you want out of and the desired tone/sound out of the rig then that is all that should matter.

The GK is bi-amped but to my understanding it's only really useful if you have a GK cab.

Does anyone know if I'll burnout the crossover if I crank this thing too hard? Are the 50 watts into the tweeter not being used of the bi-amp is not being used?

I'm still a little uncertain about the mechanics of it all, but I do know that the cab carries a 700 watt load at 4ohms while the 1001rb puts out 700watts plus 50 to the tweeter.

I could use some clarification. And my all means, point me in the right direction if this has been discussed in the past.

Come to think of it, I should have named this thread differently...

Your cabinet would have to be wired to accomodate the GK biamp system - certain GK cabs are, and you could retrofit another cabinet to do it, but honestly I don't think it would be worth your while. With a standard non-GK cab, the main signal will go into the entire cab, and its own crossover will split the signal appropriately to the tweeter and the main speakers - so your tweeter will still be used, you will just have to attenuate it with the cabinet controls (if present) rather than on the amp itself, the tweeter volume control on the GK won't do anything. I had a 700RBII for years, never used it with a GK cab, and was never missing any high end. YMMV, of course.

Nice score! Those are great cabs.
One of the interesting things about the 410XLT is its out-front projection. Your sound man may complain that you're putting too much bass out in the house!
That fact alone is a great reason to have one.
