Just scored a pile of old gear (vintage Traynor content)

Just had one of those great 'gear find' experiences.
Was home in the country for the weekend when I noticed an ad on kijiji (that's our equivalent to craigslist) for an old Traynor amp and an El Degas P-bass. Went and checked it out first thing in the morning.

Ended up with:
1972 Traynor YBA-1, all original (tubes and 2-prong chord - gotta get that changed)
Traynor YT-15 with what looks to be original Marsland speakers in good shape

Made in Japan El Degas P-bass in near mint condition with original covers, pups, and everything. Neck was straight as an arrow and all the controls were smooth.

Took it all home for $500CDN, cranked it up... woah. Some people say those old cabs can't handle bass, but this sounded pretty thumping to me. 35 years in the same family, playing some big country halls with a P-bass, tone control all the way down. I think it can handle the bass!

Pics!! (click for full size)

You're gonna love the Traynor head. Works great for guitar too. Easy to mod too, if that floats your boat. Do a search and see what I mean about the ease of modification and what is out there.

really interesting. Not what you would call "deep bass" like modern, B string kind of stuff, but a really nice bottom end. Big and pillowy (the p bass probably helps). Defintely an old school sound but not lacking in lows, mids, or highs.
I think it's mostly the combination of all 3 - with a high powered SS rig or a 5 string bass I think you'd be getting some over excursion and risking speaker damage. But with only 50W on tap there's not really a lot you can do, even with the head cranked up.

Still I'm pretty excited to try the YBA1 with my NV610 - though it can't be a permenant pairing, sadly, as the impedences are too far off - the Traynor will handle it for a short test, as they are way overbuilt.

Marslands generally suck. If the cab sounds good now, some new speakers will make it sound REALLY good. Also, dime it and plug in a guitar.

For sure!
I keep flip flopping on every piece. I wanted to flip the whole lot, seperatly. But then I thought, well I could just keep the bass. But that head is really good for guitar. I don't have room for that cab, but geez it's lighter than my 1x15, hmm... Ack!

I used those EXACT cabs throughout the 80s and I absolutely LOVED them!! My tech at the time usually replaced the OEM speakers with JBls and they rocked!! Used 4 at a time and lugged them all over the US for something like 5 years...always performed like champs!!

Good grab!!
