Thumbs up Just wondering

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, my first post here but i've been lurking for years.

i've played bass in a band for about 3 years now and are now playing bigger venues. i've been wondering about my bass head, i have an ashdown Eb180 head and when we travel to gigs, cause of the travel restrictions i usually just take my head and DI it into the pa, but i've been told recently that this can cause problems with my head just wondering what the problems are, how severe they are and weather i should bitchslap the guitarsists to **** their cabs off in favour of mine =].

thanks for any advice/words of wisdom.

p.s sorry if this has already been answered or in the wrong section. i did do a search before posting this but found nothing relevant.

No, as your amp is not a tube head you are fine just using it as a preamp.

I'd bitchslap the guitarists to let you take a cab anyway but it'll work fine without a cab. Only tube amps and the very rare SS amps with output transformers (the Warwick Hellborg power amps are the only ones I know of being made these days) need a cab plugged in.

The guitarists are likely using twice the speakers they should be anyway. Cut their packspace in half and bring a bass cab.

I would never tour without bringing a sufficient bass cab as a backup. I've been provided some pretty pathetic PA's in various states of disarray in my few years. Usually it's one of those situations where all anyone will say is "the last band left it this way..."

I would've been without bass amplification many times over already if I didn't bring something. If it were me I'd sneak my own PF500/PF115 rig into the car somewhere at minimum. It's half the size of a bass drum in a hard shell case!
