KappaLite 3015 Med Vented Cabinet

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been looking into a DIY cabinet build, and I was hoping to build one based on the Eminence KappaLite 3015. I was looking at the Eminence website, and I found some cabinet designs there, and I was wondering if anyone had built a cabinet based on these designs before.

The one I was really interested in building is the Med Vented Cabinet in this pdf: http://www.eminence.com/pdf/cab-kappalite-3015.pdf

It looks like it has a lot of similar specifications to a TL-606 cabinet. It's got an F3 of 64.54 Hz, and an Fb of 49.42 Hz. It seems like a great cabinet for the type of bass / music I play (hard rock, 4 string only).

If anyone has built one of these design, can you give me some insight into how the cab worked out for you?

Also, it says that the V(total) is 2.825 cu. ft, and the Vb is 2.483 cu. ft. I'm not sure exactly how they calculate these, but it seems to me that V(total) is the total interior volume of the cabinet (including the port volume, speaker volume, and bracing)? And Vb is the internal volume minus bracing, speaker, and ports? Can anyone verify this?

Thanks!

take a look over the fearful designs (on the wiki). You can chose a sub if all you want is 115 or can build a 15/6 for a end all cab cab

Apples and oranges. The OP asks about an Eminence reference design for the 3015; a full-range cab. The fEarful 15s are designed around the 3015LF, requiring a separate midrange driver.

I'd like to see you build the larger one. The medium one looks like it's already lost (or is close to losing) its grip on the driver where your E string fundamental is. Have to allow for subsonics, too, unless you have a high-pass filter and it's a really good one. Double whammy. I admit I tend to call these things conservatively, but cones flapping around because they're being forced to work down in a range the boxes were never intended to work in just scares the hell out of me.

Not sure if this helps, but myself and a few others on this forum have the 3015 loaded in (TL606 style) Mesa/Boogie Diesel 1x15 cabs. Sounds great.

just replaced my ev's w/3015s in 2-Boogie RR 1x15s. Phenomonal difference from the old "stock" speakers.

I built a 2x15 with 3015's based on a modified TL-606 design. This rig shoots through schools. It shoots through armor, the victim, the wall, through the tree outside.

I don't 'want' for anything more with this cabinet.

It's in my signature.

I played 3015s in a Mesa 2x15 (TL606) for a year or so and now just built a cab for one 3015 (see my thread in this forum). It's pretty close to a TL606 but with a 3" port instead of the 2" the plans call for. Based on one gig it's an improvement I'd recommend. The TL606 design is pretty easy to build.

ive had the 3015 in a couple different cabs. currently 2 of them are in DIY boxes around 2.86 cu.ft. (net). they were tuned to about 53 hz or so and sounded ok. kinda boomy for my tastes so i re-tuned them to about 45 hz or so. it really cleaned up the low end. i think it really tightened up the entire sound with a lower tuning.

the 606 is a little large (around 3.3 cu.ft.) but can work as others have attested. i previously had them in an old peavey 215 with about 2.5 cu.ft. per speaker, probably tuned between 55 and 60 hz. the sound wasnt bad, but boomy.

i think winISD has a default of around 2.75 cu.ft. tuned in the range of 45 to 50 hz.
