Try re-eqing without the pedal first. Take everything back to flat bring the gain up to right before clipping the add a touch of mid & hi mid. If it's still too round the roll back a bit of bottom off it. Remember small changes in EQ make big changes in sound. Also dial in with your ears not your eyes. IF you can find a usable tone then bring the pedal back into the mix using same idea ie: a little goes a long way. If that does not help then ya sell it all and start over. Ant excuse for new rear, right?

I just tried for about 45 minutes, and I can't really get the tone from it that I won't an on this amp, as far as I know there is no mid knobs, which kind of annoys me. There's 1 middle knob and 1 saying 340Hz and one saying 1,6KHz, and of course the bass and treble.

I really can't seem to get the tone out I like, and it's sad but true.

yes you have a 5 band eq bass, Low mid (340), Mid, High mid 1.6, high.
make sure low and high boost buttons are off and the sub generator is off.
The Ashdown very well may not get grindy enough for you. If Ampeg is out of your price range maybe look at a GK head. Not Ampeg grind by any means but can get grindier (is that a word...LOL) than the Ashdown.

I guess you're right.
Well, I will look for some GK and Ampeg then! If I'm lucky I can probably find something used.
Thanks a lot mate!

Used GK - best bang for the buck! $1300 will get you (2) GK SBX410's, 700rbII, and Sansamp RPM). The compressor and tuner can be had for about $350 more.

Theres quite a few 500 watt heads and 1x12 cabs worth checking out. Aguilar, and Markbass sound good. They are quite popular setups. You can use one cab and 250w or two cabs and 500w if you need a lot of volume. Sound quality is great, a bit better on the Aguilar.

Im not hip on Ampeg or Eden stuff of late.

I don't know where you live, but the SA stores in both Nashville and Orlando usually have every model of both Ampeg and GK on the floor. If you are in the area, take your bass and spend all day. They have other makes too, plus usually some nice used stuff. I've been known to stay in the Orlando store 5-6 hrs, but I get what I want.

The OP live in Denmark guys. He plays Stoner/Doom (3 piece) & Hard Rock (4 piece) His Ashdown does not put out enough grunt & grind for him. In his OP are links to the tone he's after. I could be wrong but they sound like Ampeg grind to me. He has also stated he has been unable to locate a VT pedal in his country.

So def keep the ideas flowing

Chuck,
do you think the Aggie Tone hammer can get some of that grit and grind he is looking for?

My BDDI deluxe came from TB classifieds via Israel. Most of the rest of my pedals straight from enlightened USA members.

Mettallized,
maybe look at an Ampeg PF500 as well. Solid state micro but I heard you can dial up some nasty with it. Good prices from what I have seen.

Also GK MB500 is a lot of bang for the buck.

good luck

In my experience the PF500 does not have a lot of `nasty` in it, I use a Fender USA P Deluxe and have not found much in the way of growl/grit/natural sounding grind in it, only at the kind of settings that may cause cut-outs !

I don't know if there is something wrong with the amp, or the pedal.

To be honest, I don't have clue how to get that tone, but I've tried everything on this amp.
I have looked a lot at the VT but I cannot find it here in Europe.

That's one of many stores in Germany that carries that pedal. It still might be cheaper to order from the US and pay import duties.

Right now I really want to try it. Yesterday I was looking at a few amps, and I've tried to find some clips of the PF500 and the TC BH500, and I've come to conclusion that I have to try them both, asap.

I will also look out for Aguilar, Markbass and GK, I will probably do it tomorrow, as I have to get a pickguard for my P.

Since it sounds like you're looking for tube overdrive, I'd second the Genz Benz Streamliner 900. Here's a nice demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-27szg61bw

The problem with Genz Benz, even in the US, is it can be hard to find a showroom dealer. You might have to order it without trying it out first.
