Klops Drums - Anyone Heard/Used One of These Things?

Looks... silly.

This may be superficial, but that website looks like something I made on Geocities in 1997. It's so unprofessional looking that it automatically scared me off from the product, not that I was interested in it in the first place.

Not my thing, but hey, one man's floor is another man's ceiling. Somebody put some time and effort into this project. If you told me 10 years ago somebody would beat up a perfectly good bass body and then sell it as "road worn" at a high price I would have laughed. Actually, I'm still laughing.

The confusing part is they are called drums but seem to be speaker cabinets. If I were a drummer and saw these I'd be disappointed that I spent time checking it out only to find out that they aren't drums. If I were shopping for speaker cabinets and saw these, I would have thought they were drums (by the name and shape) and would have skipped over the ad. Why not Klops Cabs?

If there's one thing I've learned on Talkbass, it's that you can take the worst sounding, ugliest bass or amp or whatever and someone will have a club filled with people that think it's wonderful. There really is a home for everything. This just isn't intended for my home.

Klops Kabs seems the obvious choice. Branding is everything.

They seem to be:
- putting speakers in drum shells
- then lining them to mute the resonance of said shells.

I'm not getting it, but I will also fess to knowing nothing about cab design.

I watched the NAMM clip. Apparently, they are made using drum hardware and shells so it's supposed to be an easy change out to switch speakers. Not sure that's a plus as drums require constant adjusting. From what I've read about cabinet building, a tight fit is important. (Like in many other areas in life).

Another selling point is that the inside of the cabinet is muffled, using the same theory that a kick drum is muffled with pillows. But that is apples and oranges so I'm not sure that's good thinking. Maybe some of the cab designers on this site will pitch in on that subject.

Another selling point is that each speaker has its own cabinet so you can separate them when you mic and not get bleed from the other speakers. I'm just not convinced that there is a problem with bleed that needs solving.
