Kustom amps

Sign in to disble this ad
I am an old guy. I used a Kustom 200 with a 3-15 cab back in the day. (1972) It was the first amp I ever had that could get me heard over the Fender Twins and the Marshalls....I LOVED it! I was playing a Vox Violin bass back then (part of my handicap) but the Kustom could still get me out there. When I got my first Fender P bass I felt the earth move.....

Anybody else remember the old tuck and roll Kustom amps fondly?

Or is it just 'the older I get the better it was?'.

Yup....

Greetings from the North,

It was my 1st 'real' rig too. It was Tall & Black with enough Rolls of waving genuine 'Naugahyde' to sink a battleship lol. Great memories of teenage with that rig and it did hold it's own. I used to think about finding a couple of ole Kustom cabs for the ultimate basement stereo. You know.... for that 60/70s lounge lizard look

I never get tired of posting these pics...

My Sunn Colliseum300 got stolen on tour in 2000, so as a 'cheap replacement' I got my Kustom200. Best. Move. Ever.

It was my main amp for 5 years of extensive touring, but since 2005, it's been a stay-at-home amp, with a 1x15 cab. I LOVE this amp. In fact... just this past November, i "brought it out of retirement" and rocked out!!

Kustom + Ampeg 2x15 + Peavey T20 = AWESOME

I will never say anything but good things about the old Kustom Tuck n' Roll amps. On the guitar side of things, i use an old Kustom50 1x12... AMAAAAAZING reverb tank on that thing!

Best part... on more than one occation i used my Kustom200 head as a pillow

Yeah, worked nicely for that too. Mine was the blue metalflake...with a PURPLE pilot light lens...all the Fender guitar guys used to steal it and put it on their amps.

I could stand in front of the ports in the spkr cab and slap the strings over the pup on the P bass and feel the puff of air hit me....sold it for $200 back in the 80's....what a maroon.

I got my first job (fast food) at age 15 just so I could buy a used tuck-n-roll Kustom 200 with matching 2x15 cabinet that I had put on layaway at the local music store. I played that for almost all my "band" days that were to follow. The head died eventually and I didn't want to try and cover the cost to get it fixed. A good friend of mine still has the 2x15 cabinet though so I haven't completely lost touch with it. Man it hissed like hell but I loved that amp.

You can see it on the right there if you look hard.
