Question Kustom Groove Bass 1200hd clipping issue

Sign in to disble this ad
ohk, so i'm having an issue with my amp.
As you can see from the title, i have a Kustom Groove Bass 1200HD head. i use kustom cabs as well, a 4x10 and a 2x15. i bought them all second hand at the beginning of the year and up until now, they've been good. but recently i've had this strange issue; it clips way too much, even when i turn the gain right down, it still clips. i have active pickups, and those familiar with the Groove series will know of the Active/Passive switch on there (essentially a -12dB boost switch) and i have it set to active.

I was hoping anyone here could help shed some light on this for me. should i look at replacing the fuse, or is this something more and i should take it into the shop? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ^_^

How is your EQ set? Do you have the bass frequencies cranked? I mostly play passive basses through my 1200HD and my gain is set to the 11 oclock position (the dot on the knob is pointing right at the mark under the "G" in the Gain label above the knob).

I do have to either switch to Passive or turn down the gain when I play my Ric through it. Are your pickups set close to your strings on your bass? Maybe turn down the volume on your bass. Some active basses send a super hot signal.

Just some ideas.

hey thanks for the reply.
i've never really cranked up any of the EQ settings, its all subtle curves, and just a few notches. but even when i turn it all down, it'll still clip.
that includes the volume on the bass. even at low levels, the lil clip light still blinks at me way too much to be normal. as for pickup height, they're not that close to the strings. i've even used another passive bass on it and it has the same effect.

As far as I remember my Kustom Groove clipped hard when I used EQ too much cranked. Try using active input setting for your passive basses

Yeah, sounds like something is wrong. I had one for a long time and it never did anything of this sort. He's already running minimum input gain and it clips.

Call Kustom. Ask for James Brown (yes, we all get the JB joke.)

He is one hell of a guy! He's the engineer when @ Peavey that did the 5150, Alphabass etc...

He'll make it right if there's a problem.

hey guys, thanks for the replies. I think i'll give Kustom a call, see if they can't help. the unit is well out of warranty, so they won't just fix it for me, but it may help diagnose the problem so i can pass that on to a local.

thanks again.

Kustom has really good customer service, or at least they did when I ordered my Groove1200. They should hook you up.
