kustom tube amp info needed

Sign in to disble this ad
the guitarist in my new band has a really cool old tube amp just sitting around because it started smoking once... it just looked really cool and wanted to find some info on it. All I really know is its 200 watts and kind of shaped like an ampeg svt only about 3 inches shorter. And would it be worth attempting to repair it... ill try and get pictures friday when we practice. I cant remember the name of it but it started with a c... if i had to guess id say its probably a 60's to 70s model but i dont really know.

im pretty sure it was usa made by kustom the model number started with a c and it had 4 knobs volume, bass, mids, and treble. that looked similar to knobs on a fender strat. I think it had a few switches at the top too.

I don't recall a full-tube Kustom. I have seen a few old 'hybrids' though, through the 'K studio' moniker. I just lost a (small) bid on one a few months ago KUSTOM 2V 2 VALVE AMPLIFIER | eBay. I don't recall them ever being in the 200w range though... i think 25w-100w are all i've seen. Also, they were odd in the sense that they had a tube POWER section and ss pre.

I only remember Earth amps doing Tubes + Tuck'n'roll.

Hi.

As a die hard DIYaholic, my view is that almost anything is worth saving and fixing .

Moneywise it may not be worth it, but if You can get it for free, and You are familiar with the safety issues when working on wall voltage devices, that might be a rewarding project.

Those Kustoms can be a PITA to fix, especially if you have blown output transistors. Finding modern equivalents has so far eluded me.

i did a bunch of research last night and found the same info in another forum that finding parts for it are going to be almost impossible. as much as I would love to fix it im not sure I could find parts to. I have never seen capititors like the big blue ones before im willing to put money on the fact that they are so old they probably wont work anymore.

Capacitors are easy to find. You could give them a try.

But if its transistors, then yes, those are hard to find.

Sorry but I disagree. You can find almost any functional replacement searching through the motorola catalogue.
