L pad freaking out?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a 15/6 cab crossed at 780 and an L pad on it. I blew the 3015lf and got it replaced. I thought it was fine until this weekend. It worked fine til the last set when it started distorting.

I had the 6nd410 checked out when I replaced the 3015lf and they said it was fine. That and a blown driver pretty much works or it doesn't. What I've got going on seems to happen only after it "warms up" a bit. Does this sound like a xover issue or more likely an lpad issue?

My guess is it's the xover. Or possible a bad connection- have you wiggled them all? L pad would possibly misbehave at one position but would clear up once adjusted a bit, I think.

Yep, I wiggled and jiggled all the wires when i put it back together with the new lf driver. I guess I'll pull the whole xover and do away with the lpad.

I've always been pretty dubious about the idea of the passive variable Lpad on a high powered driver like the 6nd410, but figured I'd just replace it with a switchable fixed pad if I burned mine out.

L-Pads are like $10 for a 100 watt L-Pad. Why not replace it, If the problem persist then dive into the xover components. Just my pennies worth.

Good point. That's why I was asking about the L pad. I'm thinking I'll bypass it, pad the mid back 3db, and leave it on the cab to fill the hole it's in.

You have got the L-pad wired AFTER the crossover right?
