L. Tronics in canada tube bass amp

Sign in to disble this ad
came across this, looks pretty cool.

http://www.ltronics.ca/amps.php

i had to send them an email. it's $1500.00 and here's the specs he sent me.

Hi,

Eq is solid state using 1 OP IC and 5 transistors.

Pre amp and phase inverter use 4 X 12AX7 Electro-Harmonix tubes and output use 6 X 6550 Svetlana Tubes.

All transformers are Hammond transformers made in Canada .

Amp has 2 inputs with separate triode for each input. Tone control stack (base, middle and treble) with bright / normal switch on volume control and bass and treble shift on bass and treble control, and switchable 5 band EQ.

It has effect send and return connections and direct out connector.

Right now gain is set for bass guitar with active electronics but that can be easily adjusted for specific guitar.

I get 48.5V RMS in 8 ohm whit 1khz signal, before clipping, which is 294 Watts.

Speaker connections are for 1 X 8ohm and 2 X 8ohm or 1 X 4ohm.

Amp has protection system in case of output tube failure.

Let us know if you need any more information’s.

Three transformers?

And i assume the Toroid is the power?

The littlest one is the choke... but hmm, why are there three big tranny's?

Cool amp too, and its hard to bear that price...

I'd be real interested to see what the eq points and range are.

I'd make a guess at power, output, choke and interstage/driver.

If that stays nice, clean and fat for most of it's power, and has both input gain and master volume so you can choose "color content," that seems like it's right up my alley.

No disrespect to the Maker but if I'd gone to all that trouble of designing a tube output stage I'd have gone the whole hog and installed a tube pre-amp.

I'm going to have to agree with you here... If i had to carry a big tube amp around, i'd want full tube tone.

Also, as they seem to be custom built, I suppose you could spec what you want.

I think it does have a tube pre... mind you, I don't see any 12ax7 tubes in the picture...

The could be inside the chassis, laying down on their sides.
Preamp tubes don't run particularly hot, and this wouldn't need much venting.

You can't see the pre-amp tubes but the specs say that the pre-amp and phase inverter use 4 X 12AX7's.

It is the EQ that is solid state. Not out of the ordinary.

Probably has a Fender type tone stack.

I'm guessing front to back from their size/shape they are power transformer, filter choke, driver transformer, and output transformer.
