I didn't think it was especially noteable, but it was happy with everything thrown at it by a 100w valve amp screaming its guts out and a bass tuned to A.

its down to yourself if you like the sound but i like laney build quality in the 20years i have mine not once has it failed..cant say better than that..

| | | | I'm currently thinking of buying one of those NX115's. For 330e ($430 currently) it looks like a bargain. Celestion Neodymium speakers. Similar cab from Hartke, HX115 Hydrive is 100 euros pricier so the Laney sounds awesome.
If anyone has any comments about the cab I'd really appreciate the input. Currently I have no way of trying one out and being a novice in these matters I probably couldn't tell if it was a good cab.

I've bought a few weeks ago a Laney Nexus 1x15 cab for my Mesa
Boogie 400+. ( stole my powerhouse).
After a time, using the laney I can say that I'm not happy
with it.
The vinyl cover is weak and fragile. It hasn´t twietter only
can be mid and low frecuencies.
Lacks grunt and strain.
In conclusion, I'll save for another powerhouse. |

Looks are impressive, rather loud, but the tone was not very pleasant. I tried the line twice, and both times, I was not impressed.

I gig pretty regularly with it and allow other bands to use the cab with their heads so we don't have to keep swapping backline. I get nothing but great comments from every bass player that has used it.
Personally I love the amp, including the cabinet. The 8x10 doesn't have a tweeter, but if you want a lot of top end it can still easily handle it. The speakers that are fitted are the Celestion Green Labels to my knowledge, if you read up on them you'll see that they are voiced for a more vintage vibe, rather than a Hi-fi sound, so you get speaker colouration, but in a good way. It's also really light, and is actually easier to transport than a regular 4x10 in my experience because of the tilt back castors. |

A bit of break-in time certainly made a big difference on the speakers, which are Green Line 200w Celestion Neodymium magnet drivers. The cab is punchy and touch sensitive with my amp. I agree with the vintage coloration of the tone, not very hi-fi, and doesn't reach the extreme highs and lows as much as some of the other 8x10 cabs on the market. Overall, it sounds great, though the Hiwatt growl doesn't shine through with this cab as well as my Eminence 15" Kappa Pros when the 400w Hiwatt is really cranked. The cleans are wonderful. Hiwatts are very picky with speakers in my experience especially with non-ceramic drivers. Having tried a couple other amps with this cab, the character of the tone varied a lot with each amp including vintage Bassman 135 head, Hiwatt DR103, modded Sound City 120, Orange Thunderverb. The Nexus NX810 can be a great depending on your purpose and style. This is certainly the most portable 8x10 I've used. At 92 lbs, it's lighter weight than the 400w Hiwatt amp head on top of it. |

Going to use my lmt800 head to power it. Will let you know how I like it after i get more time with it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
