Question Laney RB9 or Kartke HA5500?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I am trying to decide between 2 stacks:
  • Laney's RB9 bass head with RB410 cab

or
  • Hartke's HA5500 bass head with 410XL cab

I'm intending on spending between $1000-1500, I play alot of various types of music, but mostly metal or death metal in genre (I play along to Protest the Hero, Black Dahlia Murder, Red Hot Chili Peppers, so tone range is important), and these are the two best stacks I've come across locally (I live in the Frankston area in VIC, Australia). If anyone has any other suggestions for a good stack around that price, please let me know. I use a Hohner B Bass V, if this changes opinions at all =)

Thanks all =)

I have the Laney R4H head, which was the model before the R9, and the R410 cab. I was my first rig. Funnily enough, after lugging it around for jams and gigs for 2 and a half years, n tearin myself a new one, I bought a Roland Bass Cube 100 for running around with at small venues.

In short, the Laney is killer rig for the price bracket, and I would personally have no issue with recommending it to you. I've given it a fair bit of abuse, lugging it all over the countryside, and it has never failed me yet.

In addition to that, you have plenty of flexibility with the onboard options and will have no issue getting a shizzle hot tone outta it.

I've not played a Hartke rig but if I was ever going to upgrade, I would always test the Laney Richter and Nexus offerings.
