Post Latecomer to my 1rst AMP - cab options?!

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm about to take my first plunge into amplification and I wonder if you can share any feedback about speaker cabs. I've already done a lot of reading on here. I hope I am on the right track. Sadly, we do not have a place in Tucson where I can hear the stuff I'm considering!
My goal is one rig that can easily and beautifully do an upright bass coffeehouse/jazz/folk gig AND expand to larger venues and higher output settings with electric bass when needed (My one cab will need to go a long way - but the head I mention below should also drive a second cab for bigger boost when needed). I know this is a pretty ambitious goal - but I want something that I will be happy with for years and in different situations (anything from small, like I already mentioned, to stage bass in big band or orchestra settings, to small/modest rock clubs).

I'm pretty set on getting a Genz Benz ShuttleMAX 6.0 head.

It seems to have the best range of power, weight, versatility and features I can find - and they have a good reputation.

Cabs are another story! I want ONE good, light, versatile cab to start with. What I'm looking at are the following and not in any order of preference. Any stand outs here? Anything else missing? Thanks for any recommendations or insights TBer's!

(Possibly a PS 112 or UL D.I.S.T. also)

I don't have much experience with lot's of brands....but, I can tell you I love my little Aguilar GS112. It's light, sturdy and sounds great. I bought mine used.

I thought there was a giant bass store in Tucson? The Bass Place or something like that?

The Bass Place is in Phoenix, but definately worth the drive. As to the cab situation, with a GB head, how about GB cabs? Also, consider their Uber line,...smokin'.
