Ok, I just got my brand new LDS 8x8 cab and it is EXACTLY what I wanted! Here's the specs.
- Eight Faital Pro 8PR200 drivers full range.
- Eminence ASD1001-S HF driver with APT-80s horn, high passed at 5khz.
-Cab dimensions 20"w, 36" tall plus rubber feet, 15.75d
-80lbs
-4 Large flared ports on rear
-Covered in tough tolex, Large 3" rubber wheels, top and side handles.
SOUND: F'ing HUGE! From the first note, I knew that I made the right decision. With the tweet turned off, there is as much top end as I would need live, at gig volume. With the tweet there is just a nice, sweet top end that is not harsh at all. Mids are probably pretty flat with a slight bump in the low mids. Lows go as deep as I heard out of the 3015lf equiped drivers but had more force and when you mute a note, it stops imediately with no trace of flub. Starting on low notes and working your way up the neck, the sound is fat with alot of force and push to the sound. The sound stays thick all the way up the neck but doesn't get boomy like many cabs with a big low end. It sounds like its a sealed cab with a bigger bottom end.
This cab will put out more volume than a berg NV610 while going both lower and higher but still having that satisfying punch. Does it have the dispersion of a 3-way, nope. Does it sound better to me, Yup. I'd dare to say that 90% of the players out there would pick this cab over a 3-way blindfolded any day. This was not a cheap cab to build but it sounds the way I wanted it too and easy pretty easy to move, especially through a doorway. When I've played any of the other cabs I've owned, there was always something else I wanted, no matter how good the cab was. This one leaves me wanting nothing. If someone was to build a vertical 4x8/tweet, they would have the tone that most players would want AND have the dispersion to match. I gave up the dispersion so as to only have to make one trip with a cab. I love this cab. Thanks DON!!!!!! |

Much lighter than the Henry, which weighed 105...

In the the end it came down to being honest with myself and realizing that I like 1 or 2-way cabs the best even though they aren't technically the best. After that, it was pretty easy to figure out what I wanted. I just cranked it up pretty good and got a distance away. On a loud gig, I would set the amp flat without the tweet or with the tweet at 9 o'clock and be set. No eq needed. It sounds better the more I turn it up! It feels really good to get it right after trying alot of different cabs for the last few years. It's like a weight has been lifted. I can tell that the drivers are going to break in more. |

The dispersion's probably not much worse than a 1x15 and with the height you'll hear it a lot better in the near field. So that's something. At least Don got the drivers as close as humanly possible.
The henry is a terrible design for this reason. Why sacrifice dispersion by splitting your drivers up so far? Nonsense.
