Which lead-sled head with the Berg HT112ER stack?

Looking for some input for one of my students who is less than enthralled with his Markbass 800 tube.

Thanks,
Cameron

Genz Benz GBE series. It can control those big cabs like very few other amps can. Tons of EQ options to deal with about any situation. A variety of available sizes 400, 600, 750, 1200, and best of all, great value for the $ because they are heavy.

I've owned the HT-ER/EX-ER stack for awhile now. Tried several class D amps through them and none of them really lit my fire.

It wasn't until I fed them my Crown XTI-2000 (475 per ch @ 8ohms) that they came to life. It was like someone lifted a carpet from in front of the cabinets. Those cabs are capable of powerful low-end but they like POWER!

Needless to say, the 950w from my Crown was more than enough, the 450w from my TC RH450 was not. Also tried a LMII and while it was voiced a bit better for the cabs, I still felt it was not enough power to let the B-string sing.

They are pretty versatile (they do hi-fi very well, even though that's not my thing), just feed them lots of power if you want to hear what they are capable of.

If he doesn't need every last db out of that stack, the Markbass F500 sounds wonderful with those cabs (I have a clip up on Youtube.

For a little more oomph, and the low end control that those cabs can need in some contexts, the soon to be released Shuttle Max 9 should kill, since the smaller, less fully featured Shuttle 9 gets good reviews with that cab/stack.

The 800 series MB heads, with their big low end, polite low mids and aggressive upper mids, are not really the optimal voicing to power that stack IMO, and even though the EQ is relatively powerful, it is hard to dial that baked in voicing out. The F500 is a totally different thing.

He can test drive my F1 if he wants. It's no IP112 but it works well with the HT...
I must say the upcoming GB Streamliner has my attention, though I should probably give up, sell the F1 and find an IP112 while I still can

If he really wants a lead sled head he may want to check out a Traynor DB800H.
It has a TON of volume, plenty of tonal options and a compression circuit that is pretty decent.
It ways a bunch, but doesn't cost all that much.
Plus the Yorkville/Traynor service dept. is very good.
