Let the earth shaking begin (8x10 content)

I picked up this older Trace Elliot model 1084 8x10 cab off of a local Craigslist ad last night. It's a bit tattered from use but works fine and I don't think I could touch any other 8x10 for the $200 I spent on it. I haven't had a chance to test it yet because my GB Shuttle 6.0 has a Speakon output and this cab has either an XLR or 1/4" input. I've already got a quality Speakon>1/4" cable on order.

I have a question, though. On its rear badge, the total power handling on the Trace Elliot cab is rated at 640 watts max. I also own an Avatar B410 Neo which is rated 1000 max. Will this 8x10 really out thunder my 4x10?

Wow, looks like a very nice deal!

And yes, it will out thunder your Avatar with its extra 4 10-inchers
rock steady!

I always amazes me that you can get so much power out of that small class D amplifier.... Doesnt look right sitting on top of that big cab... Probably kicks ass though, thats what counts.

Yeah, I predict that settup is going to sound much bigger than your 4X10. Power handling doesn't necessarily equate to efficiency and air movement.

And I really like what you've done with your P-bass too. Is that a highway one neck on a different body? Super nice matching the candy apple red (or chrome red, can't really tell) with the tort guard. We've got similar taste!

Thanks for the input and kind words, everyone.

The P Bass started out as a 90's Squier Affinity P Bass with an awesome, awesome neck. I added the tort guard, BadAss II bridge, Dimarzio Model P pickups and applied a 70's style waterslide to the headstock and clear coated it several times. I'm really happy with the way the bass turned out and ecstatic about the way it plays and sounds. I'm always receiving compliments on the bass' looks and tone at gigs. The total cost of the bass was $165.

Below is a picture of a Vintage Modified Squier I overhauled with gold anodized pickguard, Dimarzio Split P pickups, BadAss II bridge and a 50's style waterslide, also clear coated over several times. It plays and sounds just as good or better as the red P Bass and its total coast was $200.

Can't wait to hear these along with my '83 Fullerton '62RI P bass which is on its way to me through the 8x10!

The mesh grille covering was falling off so I tore it off, sprayed the expanded metal grille under it a fresh coat of glass black, fabricated some delrin stand offs for attaching the metal grille to the cabinet (used to attach with velcro), and attached it using coarse thread drywall screws.

Worked like a charm. I think it looks a little more menacing, too.

Looks great. And for $200? Wish I could ever find deals like that.

Great job on the grill. Replacing the XLR's with female speakons is an easy upgrade for your cab as well. Nice score, enjoy.

I already ordered a Speakon>1/4" cable but definitely a possibility for the future.

Does the cab really need a Speakon connection?

Speakon is safer, can handle more current, and less likely to cause a short. Just a better overall design than 1/4" speaker cables. Plus, in many countries they are now mandatory for high current connections.
