LH1000 Tone

Sign in to disble this ad
So I finally got to play through one of these the other day and really liked the way it sounded. Unfortunately the store was inside of a mall and all employees were glaring at me when I had the master volume at about 10%. Guess they don't approve of their customers trying out gear. Won't be buying from them! Anyways...

I've had a couple threads on this, but I want to switch from my SVT-3 and SVT-610 to a similar tube head that will run two EarCandy BassBomb 900W 212s.

I play mostly metal and stoner/doom. How does the LH1000 compare to the likes of Ampeg, Sunn, etc? I'm not looking for a cheaper Ampeg clone. I have a lot of appreciation for Larry and how he does business and would prefer to buy one of his products over Ampeg. I didn't have any pedals with me and didn't get to crank up the amp, so just wondering if I'll be able to get a good, gritty hell tone out of this amp. I really like my SVT-3 tone but cannot run two 4 ohm cabinets with it.

Also, it looks like I can only run 320 watts to each 212. If I had something like an SVT-4 I could run 600W to each cab. How big of a difference is this?

I haven't heard the LH1000 yet, but the word is that it's what you want for big, warm, and clean tone. Probably not what you want for dirt & grit.

Best approach would be to use two Bass Bombs - in 8 ohms each - then run the amp in bridged mode = 550 available watts per cab. But if your cabs are 4-ohm cabs, then you'll have to settle for 320 watts per cab...
